Rifle shooting at 300 meters

Our local club reopened last Saturday with some Covid-19 related restrictions, 1/2 of the firing lines open due to distancing, max 45 minutes per shooter with reservation. Still felt great to be back at it

I took my two Swiss ordnance rifles, the Stgw 57 & 90

The GP11 (7.5 X 55 mm) is a great cartridge; it launches a .306 projectile weighting 174 gr at 2560 ft/s. The GP 90 is the Swiss version of the 5.56 X 45 mm NATO with a 63 gr projectile at 2989 ft/s

I shot 30 rounds in 10 shot strings with each weapon, best score of the day with each one

I am more of a handgun guy, but I intend to shoot more rifles this year and improve if I can get enough trigger time

Why did they replant that section of trees in the middle of the shooting lane?

Those are interesting sights on your Sturmgehwer 57. Obviously for match shooting compared to the standard sight for the model. Very nice. I always thought that the STG 57 was a very deadly looking rifle.

Our only Swiss rifle at the moment is a K31 that is in great condition and shoots very well at extended ranges. We also still have a good supply of GP 11 7.5 Swiss rounds, although I also reload for the cartridge.

The Stg 57 and AMTs are very rare in the US, and I was fortunate enough to fire them a number of years ago. Wonderful rifles, as one would expect from the Swiss. As a matter of fact cannot think of anything the Swiss make that is not top drawer.

That's a great question and I don't have a clue. Maybe for Christmas Pine tree harvesting? I'll ask the club president next time.

I'll try. We also get a screen visualisation of the impacts

The first column are the number of shots fired.

The arrow indicates the location of the "miss" relative to the bullseye, over, under, left, etc..

The third column is the score, from 1 to 10

The fourth column is harder to explain. It shows the position relative to the score : for example, the 10 goes from 91 to 100, where 91 is just after the edge of the 10 ring and 100 is exactly the bullseye.

Some competitions are shot on the 1 to 10 score target whereas some other on a 1 to 100 score target.

Yes the 57 has a diopter on the rear and a ring on the front. You can vary the opening on the diopter depending on light conditions, your eyesight etc and it has a six colour filter

The 90 only has a diopter on the rear with the standard front sight post, as per current rules.

I have always wanted an STGW 57. I wonder if an American citizen came over there and wanted to buy one, with the idea of exporting it to the U.S, would it be possible? What would you expect to pay for one? Thank you.

Beautiful rifles, probably sacrilegious, but I am much more of a rifle shooter, than a handgun nervous, always have been. I prefer the older stuff, steel and wood battle rifles. Garand, luxembourg fn49, springfield 03, enfield, k31, are a couple of my favorites. Would love a Madsen m47 if I could find one. And very sorry, but I lusted over your 57, it is a grail gun, I will never be able to own. Shot one once, and though appearing awkward, was a very comfortable rifle

If they really deaden the blast, I think that would be a great idea and beyond control from above....at present

I read somewhere that the import costs in the US can run $ 1000 or more for a single gun !?

The run of the mill milsurp ones go for 4 to 700 $ here, there are plenty around.

They reduce the noise by 20 dB forward and 13 dB backwards. For the shooter it's also comfortable as you don't get the lateral blast from the adjacent shooting lane p
