A lot of you may not recognize the name or the band "Booker T & The MG's" but Duck played bass in that combo as well as being a session musician for the Memphis "Stax" label. His credits include:

"Respect"
"Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay"
"Hold On, I'm Coming"
"In The Midnight Hour"

He also recorded with Levon Helm, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Bob Dylan
and appeared in "The Blues Brothers" movie.:cool:

Donald Dunn died in his sleep 5/13/2012 at the age of 70.

Not the first bass guy I think about from the last half century of popular music, but a major contributor to America's sound track by any standard of judgment.

RIP, Duck. Nice work.

I think he played bass on Roy Buccanan's Green Onions also with Steve Cropper. And he played with Clapton on at least one album. Too bad. RIP.

great bass, great song. I like Jack Bruce as my all time bass man. I had a damaged speaker in my vehicle several years ago, and "Cross Roads" came on, but the bass line was the only thing that could be clearly heard, the other tracks were greatly subdued. It was on that occasion that I gained an even greater respect for the "Rhythm Bass" of Mr. Bruce. Flapjack.

A terrible loss. Duck and James Jamerson are two of my biggest influences. Between these two, you have some of the best bass lines ever recorded. They are the main reason I usually reach for a Precision Bass with flatwounds. At least I got to see Duck play a few times. RIP.

He and Cropper -- the MGs. M.G. stands for Memphis Group, the legendary Stax session men. I'm just 46, but these guys changed the way I understood and appreciated music as a young lad doing his learnin'.

Can't forget "Soul Man" perhaps the biggest Stax hit of all.

Saw Booker T and the MGs about five years ago and they were as good as they ever were. Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn actually came out into the crowd after the concert to sign autographs. Can't get better than that. RIP Duck, you were a credit to music and Memphis.

He was also a staple at Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" gatherings, playing bass with numerous acts. What a sad, sad day.

RIP, Donald............er DUCK.
