Didn't read about him on the internet did you? He didn't matter. Some soap actor died and it was a lead on the news. There are only seven left.

We are saddend to report the passing of John Delmar Anderson, of Roswell, NM, last night at age 98.

Mr. Anderson enlisted in the Navy March 16, 1937 from Minneapolis, MN. and reported onboard the USS Arizona December 6, 1940, just one year before the attack on Pearl Harbor.

On December 7, 1941 John Anderson was setting up for church on the deck and was getting ready for breakfast when the Japanese first started attacking the USS Arizona. He helped evacuate wounded sailors and was forced to abandon ship by the commanding officer, despite his pleas that he wanted to find his twin brother, Jake Delbert Anderson, who was also serving on the Arizona. He later returned to the ship but never found his brother.

According to ship's records, he was transferred to the USS McDonough that same day for duty and served out the war. He went on to become a weatherman in Roswell, New Mexico.

Sadly, there remains only 7 known living USS Arizona survivors.

John Anderson did a video interview in 2011 that is available on YouTube.
