Aged 70. Who can forget his tenacity in 1976 getting back in a Formula 1 car so soon after his terrible crash at the Nurburgring. In F1 racing he was focused in a way that wasn't done or popular in the 1970s when it was still seen as a playboys' sport. He was the modern athlete before the modern athlete.

RIP Sir, the definition of a class act.

I just saw this when I got in the mud lab at the rig this morning. Formula 1 lost a true competitor, champion and fantastic promoter and representative of the sport.

RIP Niki Lauda! A true class act he was!

Wasn't he also a commentator on ABC sports? He gets the checkered flag for the last time. RIP.

I was unaware of the double lung transplant. He was a courageous man - and of course ALWAYS opinionated. :) At the height of his ability in the car, I considered him without equal.

Only 70 years... :( Adieu "lawnmower champion."
