It is reported on several other forums that Stephen A. Camp suffered a stroke yesterday and has died. He was a member here and had his own site devoted to the Browning High Power. He was very knowledgeable about the BHP and wrote extensively about the pistol and related topics. He was a retired police officer also.

The firearms world is a lesser place today with his loss!!

I really enjoyed his writing and valued his opinions. Very sad. He seemed like a nice man.

It wasn't too long ago I sat and spent a few hours reading everything he had at his web site on S&W revolvers, particularly the snub nose variety, once the wheelgun bug bit a couple years ago. A fine no-nonsense writer I always enjoyed reading whether there or at the numerous forums he was a member of.

He will be missed.

Condolences to his family. Stephen wrote the most thorough range reports and thoughtful gun reviews I've read. I would have loved to have met him in person.

Go in peace, brother.

Holy Mackerel!! I'm sorry to hear that. He was a great asset to the handgun world.

Prayers for strength for his family.

Very sorry to hear it. He was an excellent writer, far better than almost anyone out there. He is a real loss to our community.

No one else on the Net has probably published so much good, soid handgun trial data. His photos were also excellent.

I often wished that the gun magazines would use his material, but they're usually interested in sucking up to their advertisers, not printing articles that readers would really like to see.

My condolences to Mr. Camp's family, I learned a lot from his website. I hope someone sees a way to keep it up or transferred to another host as a remembrance of his work.

I have read many of his very informative posts on this forum over the years, and will miss his contributions to the body of knowledge this forum provides us with. Rest in peace Stephen.

Not only was Stephen a knowledgeable writer and avid firearms enthusiast, he was also a true gentleman of the old school. The world is a lesser place with him gone. Godspeed, brother.

This is unreal. I had an e-mail exchange with Steve earlier this week, and I finally got around to asking to send me an autographed copy of his book on S&W airweights.

I didn't know him personally, but I had great respect for his work.

Very sorry to hear this. I never met him but I sought his advice on a number of occasions. An extremely knowledgeable man who was quick to share it. He will be greatly missed. :(

We've lost a real friend. A gentleman, no doubt, but also a person who graced us by showing us how a citizen of the internet should act. I hope we can live up to his example. May he rest in peace.

I'm not going to say this very eloquently: Stephen Camp will be missed, and badly. I always owned guns, but I was not a "gun person" till I started reading his notes on them. I am so very much in his debt for getting me started on a road of really great collecting and shooting, and through that meeting all of you. I would not be part of all this without him and his work.
This sucks.

Mr. Camp alway came across as a gentleman in his writing. He strongly disapproved of boorish behavior on websites, and was an advocate of thoughtful discussion based on sharing ideas and discovering truth, instead of scoring points or playing ego games. He will be sorely missed, and I would like to express my condolences to his family and friends.
