I'm going to buy a scope Simmons White tail 50mm and want to keep factory sights as well. And I need clearance for the 50mm scope. What size riser in height do I need? 1 inch-hollow? Also does the lenght of the riser matter. Newbie questions, thanks

the rings size 1" looks fine, but i think the height from the bell of the front portion of the scope will hit the rail, so I need to some height off the rail. Those look to be on about 1/2 to 3/4 and i need at least 1" thanks

I've got a Burris PEPR. It's one inch tall. Well, actually it's measured 1.5'' to centerline with a one inch tube... which is one inch in lift.

With the eye relief on that scope, I wonder if it will clear the rear factory sight even with extra tall mounts.

+1.

I have Leupold see thru rings plus a 1" riser and the stock sights in the back don't fit under the scope. My objective is only 32mm and it is hanging down into the iron sight FOV. A 50 may be too big and may block use of the iron sights unless it is up even higher.....

the carry handle method will be about the best option. Otherwise the end result will be a bunch of risers on risers.....

The C. picture in Chatanoogaphil's response above is what I have. It is a carry handle with a UTG 1" see-thru riser scope rail mount. It allows me the best of both worlds, my iron sights for less than 75 yards and my scope for anything over that! :D My rig as shown below.....

And I think that most all standard riser's have about a 5" to 6" length.

thanks guys I ordered the utg carry handle aboe and the tapco rail for it Exact same set up as picture C above. Need rings and time to mount scope. How hard is it to set to zero. thanks

For scopes, you want the scope closes to the barrel, or as low as you can get it. Now if you want to keep your iron sights, then they have scope risers with see through them for shots closer than your scope.

Leapers Data Sheet May Help You

After several days of searching I finally found a data sheet that will help you pick the set of rings from any mfg. These dimensions should allow you to put your scope where you want it to be. I am going for minimum clearance over my rail. I am therefore not going to go with a riser as I am trying to hunt prairie dogs with my M&P 15-22 as an adjunct to my Browning falling block 22-250 rifle. I will go with QR rings and remove my standard iron sights. Let me know if you want to see pics when I have it set up next week.

This was a see thru mount on a Colt C 4 carrying handle....The c/l of the scope was 4 1/2 inches above the c/l of the bore....Using the see thru on the iron sights gave more variety on different ranges than the scope did.......If I zeroed the scope for 50 yards it was not very good above or below 50 yards.....I had to use a lot of guess work in hold over for various ranges..

The closer to the bore you can get the better...If you want to use iron and the scope get a side type mount.

I have a red dot on it now and it works much better than a cross hair reticle.

Just my opinion.
