I really don't know much about the RM's. Was that a Market Value bid? I thought the two K22's were a bargain Then there were two 44 Magnums. 4 screw: $2500 and 5 screw: $2300. I figured those were about right. I really liked the short barrel M-57 (Jovino ?) but one needed to bid $2100 (plus) to own it.

What a way to waste a Saturday. That's OK. I didn't have much else to do.

Got a link to the auction items?

$5500 for an RM in good condition with any barrel length is probably a good price. I've seen the most common barrel lengths, non-factory refinished, with wrong grips offered for more.

$2500 for a 4 screw 44 Magnum depending on condition and whether the box was with it might be a fair price. A 5 screw at $2300 is likely a screaming deal unless refinished, poor condition, no box/tools, etc.

I think I'd be very, make that very very, tempted for $2100 on a M57 Jovino. A copycat, maybe not so much, but probably tempted too.

Tell us more about the auction please.

The k22'as I spoke of were Lot#'s 494 and 496. I was glad to see the FEG SA85M hammer for $2600. The value of mine just went up.

Here is the link.

Assume there is a buyer's premium (17.5%?) to be added to the hammer prices.

I'm wondering about pre-war 38/44 Outdoorsman prices. The one in this auction went for $1100 and is advertised as a 95% gun. I've seen a couple others (RIA) go in the same price range which seems really low for pre-war Outdoorsman's. Wonder if those are all aberrations or if 38/44 OD prices are actually declining?

With buyer’s premium, the Registered Magnum sold for $6600. I had stated in a previous thread that I thought Registered Magnum revolver prices were flat or even maybe a bit on the decline. This is a strong price for this revolver in today’s market, and it doesn’t even have a factory letter. And it doesn’t even have the original service stocks. But, in this case, this isn’t necessarily an apples to apples or even an apples to oranges comparison, as it has original Ropers. In this case, do you prefer original service stocks or Ropers?

A word to the wise about buyer's premium (which 22 hipower tells us to assume is 17.5%):

17.5% is an entirely reasonable place to start for such assumptions, but there can be/will be add-ons. In this case we're given a link to proxibid's listing. If/when you're using proxibid, there's an add-on. I have no clue what it is, but have heard it's 6%.

Given a 17.5% buyer's premium for openers, adding on 6 points for proxibid, another whatever for use of a credit card, and more whatevers for whatever else gets you to talking about REAL money REAL FAST!!

I don't know the first thing about the service provided by Proxibid, but that's okay because I wouldn't even think about using them!

I bid by phone. I pay by check. My buyer's premium is whatever the auction house charges-----period! (I say "I bid by phone"---I don't bid at all! I tell the nice lady on the phone I won't be making any bids---to just tell me when it's time to buy, and I'll buy-----or not!) I could never understand bidding---seems like an invitation to your competitors to raise your bid----I let other folks tend to that--and they do a good job of it! Besides that, the nice lady on the phone doesn't have to relay any bids, and she appreciates the break!

Right! Why the h**l would anyone use Proxibid, when you can get it for less on the auction site? Why does Proxibid even exist unless an auction house is too lazy or too small to have their own site on their webpage?

I drove 4 miles the other day to Costco past a few gas stations with gas at about $3.75 a gallon in order to pay $3.35 a gallon, thereby saving 40 cents s a gallon, a bit over $5.00 in total. Why would I willingly pay an extra 6% of $5500, which is $330? That’s about 8 tanks of gas.

Then again, my wife wanted to go to lunch yesterday at a mid range restaurant. A bottle of wine, two meals and an appetizer, $112.85 including tip. Why would anyone do that when food is cheaper at Costco or the local supermarket and a bottle of wine is far less at the local wine & spirits?

Plain vanilla......
That's what dealers call a 6-1/2" Reg Mag with a Call Bead because the configuration was the common 'Hardware Store' inventory, and the 6-1/2 is the most common barrel length by twice the 2nd placers.
The 6" ties for 2nd most common with the 5", but everybody who doesn't drool and can say his name knows that the 5" is almost the sexiest, bestest, rarest magical barrel length in the world, relegating the 6" back to "plain vanilla with a cherry on top".
So, with no letter stating it was ordered by 4 FBI agents who killed lots of the 1930s gangstas with it and then sold it to some twins that were Captains in the Texas Rangers, it is just a plain vanilla bowl of ice cream with a cherry on top that has a really nice pair o Ropers. :D ;););)

And there you have it---from one who's been there and done that----with a cherry on top!!

Well, I'm like HUH?!

Then I'm sitting here wondering what you really meant---maybe a HFT? Naw----it's 6" .22, but he knows better than that.

Then I figured, "What the hell?! I'll just ask him."

Turns out to have been a slight case of brain fade---a common ailment---been there----done that!

There were a couple (I think three) pre-war .38/44 Outdoorsmans in the auction. I bought one of them (serial number 60006) because it’s the consecutive serial number after one I just bought at Tulsa in April (60005). Interestingly, both have a humpback hammer. I think it’s pretty cool to reunite two guns, consecutive serial numbers, that shipped almost 85 years ago!
