I would like to get feedback from users regarding the different red dots and then summarize the responses here for reference regarding usage on the M&P Core.

Any information to complete the following would be very much appreciated. Ill be updating this post as I gather information.

Dot: Measured in minute of angle (moa) at 100 yards. Therefore a 4moa dot would cover 4 inches on the target at 100 yards, 2 inches at 50 yards, 1 inch at 25 yards, and 0.5 inch at 12 yards.

Dot verses Triangle: Using the triangle allows more precision if sighted in at the tip of the triangle, faster acquisition due to the triangle being larger then the dot.

As per M&P: Slide cut to accept the following optics – Trijicon RMR, Leupold Delta Point, Jpoint, Doctor, C-More STS, Insight MRDS

Trijicon RMR

RM07

I'm using a Trijicon RMR (RM07) 6.5 MOA on my M&P 9L CORE. It was easy to mount and allows you to co-witness sights. I really like the constant on & auto-adjust brightness features, the dot will adjust within a second when transitioning through different lighting environments. I have made about 5 range trips and fired approximately 500 rounds. The RMR has been flawless and has held a zero. They are rather pricey, I picked this one up used for $400 and have no regrets.

I also have a Vortex Razor (3 MOA) mounted on a Ruger 22/45 that has performed exceptionally well. I do not know if any of the CORE furnished mount plates would work for the Vortex. A good friend has a Razor mounted on a Ruger GP-100 that has held up to about 400 rounds of .357. It's hard to beat a Lifetime/Transferrable warranty that comes with all Vortex optics.

My RMR Rm07 lasted 200 rounds on my core then the dot started turning itself on and off. When I called Trijjicon tech support then knew all about this problem and told me that this sight was not designed to be slide mounted. Still waiting for it to be returned. Trijjicon is a top notch manufacture but they have reached a little too far if you plan to use it mounted on a slide....jmho

Burris fastfire 2 is cheap, co-witness perfectly, very visible, no bells or whistles.

Burris fastfire3, has some enhancements (battery on top), partially co-witnesses (sits higher than the Fastfire2) Can see the top of the front iron sight.

Jpoint has a plastic lens and a composite body, but seems to get good reviews.

Leupold Deltapoint Pro, to the best of my knowledge, does not have a mounting plate for the CORE. One is supposed to be forth coming. The earlier version will fit the CORE.

Agree with Pyro on the Burris II and III. I have tried both on my M&P Ported. Only dislike on the II is that I can't adjust the intensity as I can on the III. Also III comes in 8 MOA. I would add I have been using Fastfire IIIs for several years on semi-autos from 22lr to 45 and haven't had a single issue. I did improperly attach one on my CZ and it came off while shooting. It flew back and hit me in the head and then bounced on the concrete pad. No damage - still works fine.

Anybody want to help complete the information in this thread?

JCase, I don't have a CORE so can't comment on the plates/co-witness. I tried to locate the 7.0 MOA MRDS, but they discontinued making them. I even contacted numerous sellers but none left in stock. I went with the 3.5 and it works great, especially for precision shooting. I have this on my carry gun (Glock 19) and wanted a bigger dot, so I bought the Trijicon RMR07. It's the 6.5 MOA none adjustable LED. I didn't want adjustable or fiber optic since I hear they are too dim in low light.

I believe the Delta Point triangles are only available in larger MOA's and only on Amber?

JCase, I have a 2 month old MRDS (3.5) for sale if interested. Nothing wrong with it, just went w/ a bigger 6.5 MOA for my defensive pistol.

JCase,
You didn't say for what purpose you wanted a MRDS and that most likely will dictate which one best suits your purpose / needs.

It is indeed distressful for those who have issues with certain MRDS but, if top line units are selected, those problems are the rare exception and not the norm.

For every RM07 that has been faulty there are hundreds (if not thousands) that have run flawlessly.

I wanted a MRDS for a specific purpose and after spending many hours looking at them and researching features there was only one that I thought would fit my designs / needs - the Trijicon RM07.

I just put about five hundred rounds through my M&P 40 PC Ported C.O.R.E. with a RM07 this afternoon and it never missed a beat and is still as bright as when I first installed it.

It's something made by fallible mortals and it may fail the next time I use it. If it does I'll have it fixed and go on.

Take care
James

Had bad luck with 2 of 3 Fastfires. Trijicon has worked well from the start. Should note that all were used on .44 Magnum revolvers

Husband loves his Fastfire III. We did have to re zero it after a few thousand rounds. Just got the PC ported c.o.r.e. in 9 for me. We went ahead and got another FF III for my gun. For half the cost of other red dots, I can re zero every few thousand rounds.
