Does anyone remember what his backup singers were called?
I remember at the height of his popularity some feminist groups were calling the name of the group sexist and degrading, but danged if I can remember.

Your topic reads "ARNOLD Palmer." Was hoping for some golfing info...

Be safe.

PS: Do not recall his back-up singers having a "name."

Yep, I edited ASAP but some of you still caught it. That's what happens when you let your fingers type instead of your brain.

"Sexist and degrading"? I don't have a problem with that.:p

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly. The girls were more dancers than singers and certainly exuded an erotic tone to their performance. Maybe it was their presence that was controversial instead of their name.
My wife and I were talking at dinner about Palmer and I couldn't remember their name, if they had one.

The women in Palmer's video were not musicians, but were basically a troupe mimicking women in paintings of Patrick Nagel. I remember when those videos came out, ALOT of controversy, now those videos would be tame.

This thread is hilarious and was well worth clicking on. I just want to respect the memory of the dead and note that Robert Palmer was - despite the fact that he was so popular - a real artist who really cared about music. :) May he rest in peace.

Now I'm going to go listen to the cool twin Mbiru beats (a standard 4/4 with a slow African waltz over it) in "Woke Up Laughing"

No name for them - just a group of models ...........

The music video was directed by Terence Donovan, in which Palmer's backing band is a group of models whose pale skin, heavy makeup, dark hair and seductive expression makes them resemble the women in Patrick Nagel paintings.

The models in the video are (from left to right) Patty Kelly, Julie Pankhurst, Teri Marguerite Ryan and Julia Bolino with Kathy Davies at the back on drums

With or without names, they did make an impression ...........

I think they were called;
"The Bunch of Screaming Hot White Chicks Who Looked and Smelled Much Better Than Power Station And Nobody Cared If They Really Played Or Not Band".

......moon

I've seen them but don't think they had a name. I don't see it on his CD labels that I have.

I recall that one girl had a short hairdo. I think she also had the shorter skirt. Clearly, I need to hit YouTube and refresh my memory about this vital social issue...;)

It impressed me that Phil Collins and Robert Palmer both wore decent suits to perform. Quite a far cry from, say, KISS.
Palmer's backup girls were hot. So was his song, "Addicted to Love."

First learned about Palmer when the Coke commercial hit the air. Then a church member who worked at "Big Dog Productions" gave me a two C.D.'s, one of Melissa Manchester the other being Robert Palmer... "Heavy Nova." I Was Hooked!!! I have a base-baritone voice with enough range to just about hit everything he sings. Lots of fun to sing. Good stuff.
