Rock Island 10 mm

Got to shoot a friend's new Rock Island 1911 in 10 mm. That pistol has all the bells and whistles you could want already included. I was surprised how light recoil was. It was like shooting 45 ACP and the gun is very accurate at 25 yards.

I would not hesitate to buy a Rock Island 1911 in any caliber. A lot of quality for the buck. I have a 9mm commander. It is a good gun and goes to the range often. Maybe the most practical way to get a 10mm, and maybe time to give up on ever getting that S&W FBI 1076.

The 1911's made in the Philippines are not junk pistols. They may need a little tuning and replacement of parts that are typically a sloppy fit on most production grade 1911's, but they are good pistols. My experience, thus far, with 10mm Auto was with a Colt Delta Elite. Recoil with that pistol using full power 10mm ammo was close to that of a 4 inch barrel 357 Magnum revolver. Reduced power, FBI style ammo produced felt recoil very similar to that of 45 ACP loads. The Rock Island 10mm does have a bull barrel, so that will reduce the felt recoil compared to the Colt Delta Elite, which uses a standard barrel and bushing.

Nothing wrong with Rock Island pistols. They are well built and reliable and have proven themselves to perform very well. I don't think of them as "cheap" but as inexpensive. I would rather have more reliability and quality in an lesser priced pistol than less reliability and quality in a more expensive one.

I gave up on getting a Springfield Ronin in 10mm after trying for close to a year. Grabbed a RIA 10mm and couldn't be more pleased with it after only one range trip so far. Shot flawless with the 4 different flavors of ammo I had on hand and the sights were on as well. I wasn't concerned regarding the brand as I've owned a RIA in .45 before and it was an accurate and reliable 1911.
Grabbed a M&P 10mm recently as well. Still have to get to the range with that one. I like the M&P format. This one makes 5 for me.

The Ronin is a ghost, I’ve seen just one for sale everywhere.

I own a RIA 1911 in .38 Super Auto; it's a well-made pistol and a sweet shooter, the Super's recoil is much less than the 10mm or the .45 Auto. I have full-size 1911's in both those calibers as well, the 10mm is a Ruger and the .45 is a Springfield. Also have a commander size 9mm.

I really like my RIA 10mm, very comfortable gun to shoot and a good trigger.

I am just so happy their double stack magazines work in my Para Ordnance P16-40.. and I keep seeing the double stacks in the $750‐$825 range and am very tempted.. but don't want to add another caliber to the pile during the ammo desert...
