How long is it gonna take Georgia DOT to fix the I-85 bridge in Atlanta??

Julius Caesar's bridge was around a thousand ft long and 25ft wide..

l-85 bridge is only 300ft.. But lots wider..

Rhine bridge was built in app 30ft of water..

l-85 bridge is on DRY LAND...

To put some proper prospective to this, Caesar's bridges were built for foot and wagon traffic, not cars and trucks. They were later modified for heavier traffic, but the original bridges could not be compared to those of today. On top of that, Caesar had 40,000 men to preform the task, and there were no regulations preventing worker injuries or death. Nor did they have to tear down a bridge first before building the new bridge.

So while it's interesting to know the feat was performed, it's of dubious worthiness to compare the two. ;)

The current Chinese government built several miles of modern highway in shear mountains in one weekend to get to the Panda research center. They did it with hand tools and lots of people. The surface gravel and concrete products were mined with hand tools because the explosives didn't arrive in time!

In the US, highway projects sit idle for weeks and month at a time because crews are spread out over several projects! They refuse to hire/train more crews to keep prices up!!!

Tom, can I just sit and bask in your aura? 👏👏👏👏

I also believe that when the Romans were done with what they were doing on the other side of the river they tore the bridge back down.

It's amazing what you can do with the proper amount of manpower - especially if you ignore safety. ;)

You have to realize back in Caesar's times they had them giants walking the earth. The water was only ankle deep on the giants. Huge towering trees were like toothpicks to them.

Correct. Ol' Julius was trying to send a message to the ignorant savages in Germania about messin' with the Roman Empire.

Regards,

Dave

Here in my area, a new bridge or bridges will start construction this coming May.This will be from Seven Points, TX. to Gun Barrel City, TX.
This crosses Cedar Creek Lake.
The existing 2 lane bridge is dangerous and accidents happen frequently.
Looking forward to watching the construction and progress.

It didn't work. I think it was Augustus's adopted grandson that said that the only sane thing to do was to kill all the Germans. But he was poisoned before he could get around to doing it. Hmm, wonder how the world would have turned out?

In our county, a project was started the same week for two jobs.
One was highway 22. It was 28 miles long, through S.C. jungle. It was done by a private company.
The other was highway 544. That project was 4 miles long. It was a widening project only. It was done by S.C.D.O.T.
Guess which one finished first? 6 Months ahead of schedule.

We don't have much construction delay problems here in Cheyenne.
Any project started must be done before Cheyenne Frontier Days the last 10 days in July.

Don't want inconvenience the touri rodeoensis going to the rodeo and night shows.

Rest of the the streets in town look like a combat zone.

I lived and worked in SLC for two summers. I found out very quickly that there are only two seasons there: Winter and "Road Construction Season". I never saw such extreme messes on public highways anyplace else in my experience. And that included Atlanta and Anchorage. ......

I'll bet it took longer....

I'll bet it took longer to widen one mile of College Park Road than it will to finish the I-85 bridge.

It looked like no man's land for years. Everything was coned off and heavy equipment of all types were parked down the entire stretch. The only thing was that three people were the most I ever saw working at one time. Two to stop traffic and one driving the rig.

We are growing so fast here that that one stretch of road had more accidents than anywhere else in the state.
