Got out today to the local bullseye range, shot a few revolvers and my Glock at the 25yrd line.

Shooting was offhand, I used SA for the snubby. I shot for the bull using a center hold for all guns, then poked five into a corner for a dedicated five shot group effort.
Ammo was Ultramax 200gr Cowboy loads and Speer Gold Dots in the Rossi .44sp. Both chrono'd mid 600fps range through the Rossi a few weeks back...kinda lame since the Cowboy ammo averaged slightly higher vel than the Gold Dots.
In the Cobra, Black Hills 148gr factory new HBWC's, these were low 600fps in the Colt over the chrono.
For the G20, ammo was Blazer 200gr flat points for the majority (25rnds) and 5 leftover American Eagle 180gr for my extra five shot group.

Results

The Rossi fared OK with the Cowboy ammo, I don't feel like I'm extracting it's best due to my shooting today in general and also the fat front sight uses almost all the light when centered in the rear notch. Better than usual group for the Gold Dots, though.

Usually I do my best shooting my first gun out of the bag, not so much today, but still fair.

Next was my perfection, a third gen G20 with some liposuction done by CAR Firearms. It's nice.

I held black and then some today, but strung my five shot effort a bit with the AE ammo a little. Still, it's about par for the Glock at this range for 25@25, about a five inch cluster. No issues, the gun is much easier to live with since surgery, much easier to get a good trigger press now with less circumference to deal with. I've never chrono'd this ammo yet, it felt mild for 10mm.

Factory sights on this gun are much like the Rossi, a bit low on light between the front sight in the notch, looking into fixing that. They are right on the money though, using a six O Clock hold for 200gr and dead on for 165-180gr.

I had high expectations for the Cobra this week using the BH Wadcutters.

A few weeks back, I stacked this same load into 2" at this range, five shots. A PR for me using a snubby at 25yrds. Not so much today.
Still, a decent outing once I settled down, but my five shot effort reflected my jittery hold today, and maybe this lot of wadcutters weren't as tight as the last as I had a number of holes showing some bullet yaw. The main 35 rounds were a little low right as normal for this gun.

I did a couple of thing different today that might have pooched my shooting a little.
Usually I eat after shooting, but today I was early and the gate was locked, so I did Arby's then went back and shot. I could tell the large Pepsi elevated my heart rate a bit..but damn those brisket sandwiches are really special.
I rushed things a little too with the Rossi and found myself touching off early a few times with a unusually smooth DAO trigger with no hitch at bolt engagement to know exactly when the hammer drops. It surprised me a few times.
Overall, I'm happy. It wasn't my best efforts but beats the halibut out of working.

I dream of range time.
And an air temperature above 20*, w/o wind.
And ground. Dirt not snow.

Nice job, Otreb. I am jealous. In a good way!

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, THAT WAS A FINE OUTING. PRETTY GOOD SHOOTING, IF YOU ASK ME. THAT COLT COBRA IMPRESSED ME. I ALWAYS WANTED ONE, BUT NEVER GOT AROUND TO PURCHASING ONE. I GOT TOO INVOLVED IN PYTHONS AND DIAMONDBACKS TO LOOK FOR A NICE COBRA………...

You were anticipating the recoil (a type of flinch) with the Colt Cobra.

I cured that problem by placing a dummy round in every cylinder, spinning the cylinder and not looking as I closed the cylinder, so I had no idea where the dummy round was located. When you pull the trigger on the dummy round, the flinch is very easy to see and correct.
I thought about that, it's tough to tell with 15oz snubby shooting WC's at that distance. It will rotate a bit in recoil due to the amount of space between the frontstrap and trigger guard, I have Tyler on order to hopefully address that. It's pretty consistent though with that load.
I've struggled getting it to group with a few different loads before
trying the BH Wadcutter load. My previous trip to this range and distance I held top of 8 ring 12:00 and managed this five shot group...

....so it's not likely I'm 'pushing' the gun. If I am, it's a very consistent flinch.:D

My flinch was consistent, and I used to shoot groups like yours, low and to the right. With the lightweight Cobra, it is really easy to flinch.
True, especially after shooting the previous two guns.

Berto,

it is still a very respectable group at 25 yards that you shot with the snubby - and that is taking the short sight radius and small grips into account.

That looks like a good day at the range. I have the same model Rossi 720c and it has a nice action. I use my handloads that push a Hornady 240 gr JHP at about 750 FPS. They have pretty good power with very manageable recoil and acceptable accuracy.

I have a 1974 Colt Agent but it is unfired. I may just pull it out and give it a go. I have same issue with a NIB M58.

The G20 is a pistol that I like but the grip size has always been a problem for me. The SF model didn't help much. If I should get another, a grip reduction may remedy that.

My shooting is geared toward realistic defense needs so tiny groups aren't the focus...Center mass with speed of hits with both hands are my goals...Your groups are fine. getting those groups in the effective areas is something to work on.

It's a bullseye range, so targets are fixed at 25 and 50yrds, a one shot limit per 2/sec so people aren't shooting the frames apart. I do my more combat oriented shooting at another range and holster work on family property in the mountains.
I believe both types of shooting yield benefits in putting lead on target quickly. It's easier to do when you're used to hitting at distance with good grip, sight and trigger fundamentals.
IMO, of course.
The Rossi has a very surprisingly good DAO trigger. I envy your mod 58, I blew a chance to have one many years ago, still kick myself.
