Recently I bought myself a new 617-6 10 shot and I would like to replace the Hogue rubbers with a nice set of “target style” wood grips.
It seems my choices are somewhat limited by the fact that the new 617 has a round butt and only a few manufacturers are making the conversion grips.
Nill’s in Germany make a couple of different ones that are excellent quality but quite expensive, Eagle have the rosewood “Cokes” and Ahrends are making “Retro Targets” but no mention on their website of any checkering.
Altamont have a combat type with finger grooves made of some laminated material that leaves me wondering if the world is so short of nice timber that we have to glue together all the scraps of the sawmill floor.
I am leaning towards a set of the Ahrends “Smith & Wesson Retro Target Stocks” in either, Cocobolo, Walnut or Goncalo Alves (preference would probably be the Walnut).
Does anyone here have any suggestions about this or any nice photos of the Ahrends target stocks they can share with me.
As always thanks for any replies.

I'd say you would be happy with the Ahrends.

They make a great fitting grip.

Sorry, other than the Ahrends website pics I don't have any round to square pics to share.

I have two of their grips on round butts. A 627 Pro and a 617-6. I like the way the round butt grip looks and feels.

I would recommend the Ahrends. Here are pictures of my two 617-4s with Ahrends in Cocobolo. Retro Target Stocks are on the 6".

+1 on Ahrends. I am gradually changing all my shooters over to them.

I can highly recommend "gripseller" on GB.
Terri has excellent service, combines shipping and you get to see the actual ones you'r egetting.
