Rubber or Granulate /Texture Grip? - Anyone using Talon Grips on their M&P PRO /CORE?

TALON Gun Grips for Smith & Wesson M&P Full Size .22/ 9mm/ .357/ .40/ PRO

Just ordered my M&P9 Pro CORE 5" today and I have heard SO much about these Talon grips and I have to say they look AMAZING in their website picture of the 5" and even the rubber on the FS Pro.

Anyone using these on their Pro or CORE? How does it feel with the already textured S&W back-strap WITH the Talon grips stuck to only the sides and front fingers grooves of the grip?

Also I know many use Rubber for concealed carry but I think the texture looks and would feel better on a range gun like my 5" ... the back-strap is the skateboard kinda texture already so I would assume the Granulate would be the obvious choice for a FS M&P Pro or CORE over the rubber?

I was wondering if they felt good with that separation?

I know the entire full wrap-around would be awesome and feel great but I do not plan on that as the already textured Pro back-straps are simply awesome and will be used.

Anyway just wanted to see if current Pro or CORE owners who have these could weigh in on what they think about their Talon grips.

Thanks so much and I look forward to your reply! :)

Guess not?

I'm interested in these but wanted some feedback from users of these and how they have held up.

I think since mine is not a concealed carry I will go with the textured if so since it's just a range gun.

Anyone have installed on their M&P's?

I shoot my core 4 times a week in practice and at least 2 matches per week. never saw the need for "grip enhancement". Maybe you should shoot your new pistol a few times before modifying it. S&W may surprise you and actually get the grip "right". I'm not against modifying, I shoot open class so I've changed lots of stuff on mine, the grip just wasn't one of them. Well, now that I think of it, I did change something on the grip, I sanded off the texture under the trigger guard because is was wearing off the skin on my middle finger.

Good advice ... I did hold one in the shop and also another standard M&P with aftermarket textured grip (consignment M&P, not sure who the maker of the grip was) and that grip felt real good and felt like I had better control of the pistol and didn't feel as slippery I guess you would say ... and I would imagine in the act of shooting it would help so much more!

I will probably just wait till I get it and see how it feels then decide at that point.

The Pro/CORE backstrap is nice (nicer than the non, IMHO). I have had a problem with Talon, but it seems like I'm in the minority. It's too bad too, because the company is great and I LOVE the way Talons feel. They just don't stick for me (no matter how well I "install" them).

Still thinking about ordering one of these just to try it out after I try it out stock ... I'm gonna wonder how it feels and order it anyway so might as well have 1 ready to try!

Question now is who is using the Rubberized and who is using the Granulated / Textured grips?

I know 99% who conceal carry will say rubber cause the skateboard grip granulate will rub you raw.
But I will not be carrying this weapon it will in a bag to and from the range is all.
So that being said what grip type is better for just standard target shooting???

Even if it's not Talon Grips ... do you prefer a rubber or textured grip and why? (remember not feedback if it's a conceal carry, just how well it feels in your hand, grip and the best for target shooting).

Thanks for the info and I look forward to seeing what type of grip you use.

Granulate or rubber for my basic range needs? Was gonna get the textured but I'm thinking rubber may feel better. Thought?

Just try it...the rubber version is sticky/grippy and I didn't like it on my CCW Shield9..it started to peel back in the area behind the back strap where the two ends meet and then I just removed them completely. After a few months I decided to try the granulated grip. I really like it but I had to remove (sand down) most of the granulate texture because it was way to aggressive (for me) and snagged a lot (YMMV). Talon makes good stuff...just clean the grip area with 91% isopropyl real good and you should not have any problems on installation...that's my .02 worth....

I just put the grip on my shield. I got the rubber texture because I don't like the feel of sandpaper. I didn't mind the stock grip but if I could get it to be a bit better and for the price why not.

They were easy to install and you need to either read or watch there videos. The key is to add some heat from a heat gun or hair drier. I let mine sit for a night before I carried it just to make sure it was good to go and wouldn't start peeling off. The back lines up kind of weird but it works good.

I don't have the M&P yet, but have used the Talons on several Glocks and XDs. The rubber is alright, but I've found the granulate is far superior. The granulate is very aggressive, however, if you take some light sand paper and gently run that over the surface, it will provide excellent grip without the sharp cutting feel of the new grip. The real advantage of the Talons, they add very little additional size to the grip.

Good Luck and good shooting. :D

I've had the rubberized installed on my Shield for roughly 6 months or so and carry it everyday. I haven't had any issues with peeling or deterioration so far. I noticed an instant difference in my grip and groupings because of it.

My experience was not positive.

I installed the Rubber talon grip per instructions, and at first they appeared to adhere firmly.

The rubber surface was pleasant in the hand.

However after two range sessions working on firming up my grip to isolate trigger pull, the rear surface at the backstrap started to peel and shift under the pressure. It eventually came off further, so I just removed the rest of the grip and threw it away.

I appreciate many like them, it just seemed to me that the design of the fit where the joint is right where maximum pressure is was poor. If it wrapped back to front I think that would be better.

I used the Talon sandpaper grip tape on my Glock and the rubber grip tape on my M&P ( both used for range shooting and matches , not carry ). Personally I prefer the rubberized. I haven't switched the Glock over yet, but probably will.
If I was going to carry, I would definely go with the rubberized tape. The sandpaper is rough on hide and clothes.

Mine are perfect.
I like rubber on a carry gun and textured on a range gun.

You need to use a hair drier to heat them on good.
