I saw a Ruby Extra 22 revolver much like a S&W J-frame 22 at the pawn shop the other day in good condition for $200. There is very little info on the internet about these besides they are 'based' on S&W.

I would like another M34 but they are 450-650 all day and if the trigger on the Ruby is decent I might consider it. There were imported by Llama in the 50-60's.

I was wondering how closely they are based on the S&W mechanism. It seems almost a little smaller then a J-frame.

I looked at the gun again and was a little turned off because it was missing a side plate screw allowing the yoke to come out when you open the cylinder and the hammer wouldn't stay back for single action.

A few days later I ended up trading in a old rusty little Astra cub in .22short with a bad magazine plus $125 for the gun. The good news is it looks practically unfired, it seems designed for only double-action(hammer not broke),and the side plate screw is the exact same thread as a J-frame so it shouldn't be hard to replace. The trigger pull is actually lighter than my M34 also.

K-frame square but S&W grips look like they would work if shortened and rubber grips like Pachmyers may fit with a little work. My girlfriend likes the little grip and despite no single action i think it will make a nice little kit gun.

It's not quite as tight as a S&W but still very nice quality for the money. Kinda funny I traded in a made in Spain gun for another. My only other options would have been a Taurus 94 with a terrible DA pull or a Charter arms which I don't fully trust the quality and has bad styling. And both would have cost $150 more. At least this gun has forged, milled, and case hardened parts and no MIM cast stuff. And nice bluing to boot.
