I do have the full sized model though. Very nice gun. I am not the biggest 1911 fan but have a few nice ones. The Ruger for the money is a darn nice gun.

I messed with a Remington Enhanced yesterday and it is even a bit nicer but more money.

Anyone have a Commander sized Ruger 1911? Thoughts, observations?

I handled one last month in the LGS, really a nice firearm.

I bought a SR1911 last August, otherwise I would have taken the Commander home with me. Couldn't justify another $699.00 for .75 less barrel.

Now if I walked into the store owning none, the Commander would have been my pick.

I bought a R1911CMD, 45acp last month. I got it about 5 minutes after the LGS put it on display. I have been shooting various 1911s since 1960 and have shot a Colt Series 70 in IPSC since 1990. I have owned various Colts, Springfields and STIs. RE: the Ruger 1911; mine has about everything you need in a modern 1911 and nothing that is flashy but does nothing for performance. The fit and finish are very good, and I was able to shoot 3" groups off a rest at 25 yards. That's all my elderly eyes will do. The pistol is a Series 70 copy. It does not have the Series 80 firing pin safety, which I do not like, and will not buy. The trigger on mine is amazing. This is a factory out of the box pistol, and the trigger had minimal creep and a crisp 4# break. With minimal tweeking I could probably get it down to 3# or a little less. I really like this pistol. It is not a top end Les Baer or STI, but it doesn't cost near what one of those would cost. For the $825 I paid it is worth every penny. Oh yea, the fit is snug but not so tight it needs any break in, or so tight as to be unreliable with a little dust, dirt or fouling. It is all SS. I have about 500 rounds through mine as of today, and not a single FTF or jam.
