A local shop has a very lightly-used 1967 Ruger Blackhawk .41 magnum. Its blue, 4 5/8 inch, and an un-coverted 3 screw, which in Rugerspeak makes it a BKH41. No box. His asking price seems high at $795, but I could probably get it down to seven bills OTD. Is that what these are bringing these days?

4 5/8" barreled unconverted Ruger 3 screw in a 41 mag is a hard gun to find in described condition.I have seen them go for that price, and a bit more in some instances.

I bought one for four hundred but that was a few years ago. Ruger prices have really jumped lately and that price could be the new normal but seems high still to me. Does your dealer dicker over prices? If so I'd make him an offer more in line with what you'd like to spend.
BTW I like mine real well. I had a new model like it I traded away earlier this year as the 3 screw has a much better trigger.

Being honest, I can't remember the last time I saw a 3-screw .41 for sale at an LGS or a gun show. Seems there was one on GB not long ago.

Point is, as someone else says, they're getting harder to find, and prices have risen on any Old Model unconverted Ruger

I'd offer $675 OTD and if he says no, it's up to you. It all depends on how badly you want the gun.

But if it's the 4-5/8 barrel, that makes it even more rare. If he doesn't come down, I'd bite the bullet and give him his price...but that's just me. I'm an OM Ruger guy from way back.

What a bunch of enablers....

I worked a trade today - here she is:

It looks better than my pics indicate. The action is smooth, locks up tight. I don't think it has been shot much. I love the sound and feel of the Old Model action.

I'm gonna have to start reloading.

I could not find a short "Old Model" Blackhawk in .41, so I bought a New Model. It's a good gun too and has the "Made In The 200th Year Of
American Liberty" marking.

Also has a much better trigger than I expected. My "Old Model" Rugers
have good triggers and so does the New Model .41.

How did that happen?

I have nicked my hands with the rear sights on 1911s during
malfunction clearing. I've had the cylinder latch on Airweight
snubs bite me. But nothing like that from my Ruger SA revolvers
in .357 or .41.

nice revolver. I love the old rugers. looked at one recently at a gun show in 41 magnum. That barrel length you got is hard to find on ruger single actions. The 41 magnum has serious down range power. enjoy.

I have a new model Blackhawk in 41 mag and after shooting it a little bit two things got changed. (1) I put on a super Blackhawk hammer. (2) I also put on a super Blackhawk grip frame. even though I don't have big hands the standard grip frame is too small. if you load up some heavy loads with the small grip frame you will find it ain't very much fun to shoot. I also added some pachmyr grips and it is very comfortable too with just about any load you care to try.

Must be my girly grip. The gun would roll back with every shot and the left side of the frame would whack me right there. I was shooting factory 210 grain JHPs.

My first 44 magnum was a Super Blackhawk.Never occurred to me to use 44 specials.Put several thousand of my rip snorting reloads through it.Beat the hell out of the second knuckle on my second finger [emoji41]

The gun would roll back with every shot...

I sometimes get a rollback to the left when shooting my OM Ruger .45 Colt with the 4-5/8" barrel. But it's never drawn blood, and I've learned to adjust my grip so it's happening less and less now.

I've been shooting OM Rugers since 1969, and I think you made a very wise decision in buying this revolver. They're built like tanks. And again, that barrel length in any caliber is getting harder to find, and they're getting more expensive when you do find one. And frankly, I've never been all that concerned about appearance, although it's great to have an almost pristine gun. But if it'll put the bullet where I want it to go, that's what important to me, especially the older I get.

Besides, if a gun's too pretty, you might be hesitant about taking it out into the field and doing what you're supposed to do with it. I like your revolver...you should really get some use and fun out of it. Congratulations.
