Security Six to be precise. I have two Sec. Sixes, one blue and one stainless, and a 4 inch, and I have a Speed Six. Plus a SP101 and GP100. I have plenty of Smiths of course, but but these Plain Jane Rugers are good guns, IMO. So I see an "unfired" Security Six, stainless and in a presentation case. I'm ready to buy this gun. I won't complain as the price is 3 digits. Plus the usual. They don't make these anymore, and there sits a nice revolver. Are Rugers really that unpopular or just an inexpensive revolver?

I really like the Security and Service Six revolvers. In comparing them to a S&W, here is what I think:

—the single action trigger break just isn't as good, clean, and short

—the double action trigger feel is not as smooth, light, or enjoyable

…but it isn't bad by any measure and they are absolutely shootable.

Where the Ruger wins is whatever and however they designed the hand and the rachets. S&W revolvers often have slight (or worse) timing and lockup issues but the Ruger S Six series seems somehow completely bulletproof against timing problems. Even a beat to death, dragged behind a truck Ruger Security Six is likely to have perfectly good timing and lockup.

I have a like NIB Security six stainless 4 inch...To me, they seem beefier and more heavily made than a K frame...Almost more like an L frame gun.

I like them and they seem equally quality manufactured as a S&W...Just like being married to a pretty girl, but she has a sister with slightly larger hips.

Ruger Six series guns have a certain following and prices are even more affected by geographic location than S&W's. I am one of those fans. I have absolutely no need for one, but I really want a stainless 2 3/4 inch Speed Six to go with my 4 inch and 2 3/4 inch SS Security Sixes and my SP101. I will say that the Ruger Speed Six series trigger actions respond very positively to just a little polishing in the right locations.

I was looking at a 6" for $700 plus shipping. To me, the gun is worth every penny, pennies I don't want to dig up the jar in the rose bush patch. I have a 1972 Sec. Six that shoots just as well as my 629-6, my most accurate rev. The guns won't win any beauty contests but they work for what they are: non- Colt and non- S&Ws. I believe my Model 57, 6", is the most beautiful gun I own. It's pretty obvious in this lousy picture the two Smiths on the right are more pleasant to look at, and they are all excellent shooters. Actions are all pretty good as the others except that 626-6 is the best I think I own. Yes, they all need a good wipe down!

I can confirm this. I have a beat to death, dragged behind a truck Speed Six, and its timing and lockup are as solid as any S&W I've bought new. After God knows how many rounds someone put through it, even the double action trigger is relatively smooth, for a Ruger. For comparison, I have a Security Six I bought unfired, and its DA pull is truly awful. It is effective for practical purposes, but every S&W and Colt I own is more enjoyable to shoot than the Ruger. Main thing the Security Six has going for it (and the GP100; I have one of those also) is it can handle the hottest .357 loads without cracking a forcing cone or damaging the hand or ratchet, so that is what I save the Rugers for.

I like 'em! (y)

Maybe not quite as pretty as a Smith, but they certainly know how to dance. ;)

I kinda like slightly larger hips!

Just about every "Bill Ruger" era Ruger design is a reliable, working gun.
While my faves are Blackhawk single actions and No. 1 rifles, those Security/Service Six revolvers are fine for their intended purpose.
