Friend has purchased a Ruger LCR in 9mm using full moon clips. I looked in the chambers and observed what appeared to be chamber shoulders. I was informed by the new owner that only full moon clips would work. I am wondering if these are shoulders in the chambers, could rounds be fired without the moon clips and the empty cases ejected by hand one at a time ?

Yes, it works without moon clips, but you may have to push out some of the empties that won't just fall out.

I have read that some people carry a speed strip as their only reload on the theory that once they have shot the initial load (in moon clips) and their reload they are out of ammo anyway so getting the empties out isn't an issue.

You do have to test your carry ammo to be sure it will head space properly without the clips.

In my LCR 9mm, I found some low cost reloads won't work because they are out-of-spec enough to get light strikes.

To me the idea of carrying a speed strip is strange, because reloading with a moonclip takes about half as long as a strip. I have a 686 PC that is cut for moon clips, which is my favorite thing about it. I've been thinnking about having other pistols cut for them as well.

Bad news with moonclip loads, they bulge in your back pocket.
The good news, you can pick up women if you keep them in your front pocket.
