I bought one of these last week after my youngest son borrowed my Walther P22 to train for his CCW up in Ohio. My oldest son showed me email pictures of his new base Model 22/45, and when my local gun shop quoted $425 out the door, I reasoned I should not be without a 22 Auto. I have about the same luck getting guns back from my sons as you do. I arrived in a couple of days. I took it home cleaned it and took it back to the indoor range and put 100 rounds of CCI mini-mag hollow points through without a hitch or a bobble. I shot about half at 15 yards and half at 10 yards. I forgot how much fun it was to shoot a decent 22 auto pistol. I long time ago (1963 - 1967) I owned a Model 41. I remember it as better than this Ruger. But not much better. That 20-year-old me was much better than this 78-year-old -me

I've been shooting a Ruger Mk 1 Target since 1981 and it gets better every time I take it to the range.

I shot a Mark I Target Model on the ROTC Pistol team before I bought a personal S&W Model 41. The biggest advantage of the Mark IV over the Mark I is the hinge open push button cleaning system on the Mark IV. It makes it fun to take the Mark IV apart. And I cleaned the Mark I enough times to say taking it apart is not fun. I liked the MArk 1 grip angle

While I own no Rugers at all, I have gained much respect lately for the Ruger Mark 4 Target pistol with the Bull barrel and blued finish. One of my good friends bought one about 1 year ago and she put a Volquartsen trigger kit in it. The standard trigger out of the box is horrendous! Since she installed the trigger kit, (drop in BTW) the pistol is a dream to shoot, incredibly accurate, reliable and takes down like they should have 40 years ago! I believe she has about $625 into it and for that money I don't think you can get a better target 22RF pistol.

How Ruger can release what they roll stamp "Target Model" on the barrel with a horrendous trigger that comes out of the box is beyond me! Thankfully, the Volquartsen trigger kit is the savior for the Ruger pistol!

After reading this I thought...cool, I need a
Volquartsen trigger kit. It hardly seems what I'd call drop in.

No files or Dremel necessary, might be considered a drop in. :D

Bought my first pistol in '68 at age 21.
The Ruger MK1 had a pitiful trigger so I bought a High Standard.
My 22 rifle was an issued Win 52D, smallbore team, as this young NCO was not Doubloon heavy.
Family wanted a full size 22 pistol, so I bought the MKIV, not long ago.
Gave my younger brother the new Ace I bought around '80 and only had a few Bobcats.

Trigger is wide and with only a few hundred rounds, nice.
Not up to the K22's really nice, but no complaints.

Will pull the mag disconnect soon.
Range time will be fun with punching holes with the Ruger and enlarging them with a scoped 460.
Just put a Geissele SSP in one of our 6920s, put the T36
on and will take that along.

The only mount available locally was a 10/22 so I modified it and made it for fit a DPP, RMR and the scope as shown.
Drilled and tapped the K22M to fit optics.

My Air America buddy bought two of the stainless Hunters.
Always fun shooting with one in each hand.
"Last Man Standing"

Exactly! Certainly not a drop in.

I don’t know, it seems like the rage these days is trigger jobs. I was shooting my Shield 1.0 with the NYPD trigger a few months ago and my friend said I needed to put an Apex trigger in. Then I tore the center out of the target with that gun. Then the 2.0’s came out and everybody raved about the trigger improvement(and it is better), but still people say get an Apex. No thanks. My 2.0 trigger is fine. Then the Shield Plus came out. I own one. Definitely and upgrade to the original. But the holes appear in my targets where I want them be with any of my guns, from that 10 pound NYPD trigger to the Shield Plus.

I got on a kick a few years ago and starting upgrading my 10/22. One thing led to another and now there is not one Ruger part in that rifle. The Volquartsen trigger is very nice, and certainly an upgrade, but an out of the box 10/22 is fine for what it is meant to do. The trigger in my Mark 4 Target is not terrible. The holes in my target are right where I want them to be. The aftermarket trigger industry is a bit of a joke to me. Spend your money how you want to, but it’s not necessary.

Yes - it IS drop in, meaning NO gun-smithing required. Taking the Ruger apart is easy and there are a bunch of Youtube video's that can help you. Stop the video at each step until it is done, then forward. Seriously, it seems complicated but step by step it's no big deal at least if you have at least some mechanical ability.

I’m sure j could muddle through it. I’ve taken apart my revolvers and many of my semi auto’s, but the term drop in isn’t all that accurate. The BX25 trigger in the 10/22 is drop in. The Volquartsen trigger kit? Not so much.

Just got off the phone with aftermarket Ruger parts companies.
Was told that removing the mag disconnect will not improve
the trigger on our MKIV, as it does with other pistols.
No reason to change anything but lower the amount
of ammo on hand. :D

Great .22 pistol, and the take-down on the MK IV compared to the other Ruger Mk pistols is so much easier. I really like my MKIV 22/45. I added a TK Pro Comp for a little extra front weight, and it really feels good. But my Browning Buck Mark 5.5 Field/Target will outshoot the MKIV all day long.

I have a Mark 4 Hunter coming this week.
Also have a Fastfire 3 a mount and a trigger kit coming.
Should be ready to shoot very soon.

I have a MKII, MKIII, and a MKIV. I like them all, but I believe the MKIV is less accurate than the II and III. I think Ruger sacrificed something to make it easier to field strip for those who are less mechanically inclined.

One of the keys to a well made Target Gun and shooting it well is of course the trigger! IMHO a dedicated Target Gun should have a 2.5 - 3 pound crisp, clean, creep free trigger with little take up. Of course I am talking about a dedicated target gun and not a carry gun but that is what the pistol was made for! Out of the box, her Ruger MK4 had a 5+ pound creepy gritty and sloppy trigger - NOT a target trigger. Shame on Ruger for roll marking the barrel "Target Model" and shipping it like that.
