I was visiting with an old friend the other day and the subject of Ruger Mark II's came up. I had stated that it had been a long time since I had seen a decent Mark II for sale at a gun show or gun shop. My friend asked if I really, really wanted one. I said, "well, sort of", and he went back in his safe and pulled out this new 5 1/2" stainless Target Model. I haven't seen one of these for sale in years! I'm glad my friend was willing to sell it to me. :)

They took a hit, value wise with the intoduction of the mkiv. But I still think they are the best of all the mk series. Plus mkii's come in so many cool variations. My personal favorite is a little 4in bull barrel. My 5-1/2 inch bull is my second favorite. Unfortunately mine are blue, I prefer stainless,.

Nice gun OP, your friend did you a favor.

I find the trigger to be decent but I highly recommend a Volquartsen trigger kit. You will truly love it. Have about 30000 rounds through it. I added a mount for an Ultradot Matchdot.

Once you learn how to field strip it, and you learn the proper sequence to reassemble it, then you're good to go. Watch a YouTube channel to do it. It's not hard. It's necessary to clean as 22 LR is quite dirty.

If you want marked accuracy and reliability, CCI, Eley (anything), Lapua and Wolf match.

It's a great plinker. My friend and I shoot at golf balls at 25 yards. It's quite fun and challenging.

Very nice. Congratulations!

I have a Mark II Competition Target (or is it: Target Competition?). 6 & 7/8" slab-sided bull barrel, but otherwise, it's the same as yours. I love it! I bought mine new 20-some years ago, and changed the grips (the plastic checkering was too sharp for my hand) which caused feeding problems. Now mine wears the Hogue rubber grips Ruger sells - so no more feeding problems, and fiber-optic sights. I also put in the Volquartzen 'Competition' kit and the extended safety and LOVE it. What a great gun. Enjoy yours!

Thanks. I'm well versed in takedown procedures on the Mark II. Not so much on the newer Marks although I own both Mark III's and one Mark IV. :) I don't think I'll be modifying the trigger on this particular Mark II Target; it's the best I've ever encountered on a stock Ruger automatic! :D

Just yesterday I had the conversation with a friend that I do not see many MKII handguns for sale
Especially when you consider how many of them were made

It's because most people who actually do shoot them, enjoy them. Someone offered to buy mine. I said, "Absolutely not."

The beauty of the gun is the inexpensive cost of spare parts. I bought spares of the internals. I have had to replace my spring/rod once, already. It's not hard to fix.

I'd never trade it for the newer ones, especially the Mark III. My next 22 LR would be a S&W Revolver, but it's hard not to want to shoot this Target Competition pistols. It's way more accurate than I am.

If you only lived near me, I'd show you what you're missing.[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I checked my trigger weight, and it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.2-2.5 lbs. It's no hair trigger but for Precision shooting it's super fun.

Your post made me curious enough to go pull out my Lyman Electronic Trigger Pull Gauge and take some measurements on my new Mark II Target. An average of ten pulls resulted in a reading of 3# 4.3 oz. Now granted, that's not what most would consider outstanding, but I will stand by my earlier statement that it's the best stock Ruger automatic trigger I've personally encountered. It is extremely crisp and consistent. :)

That's a beauty! Congrats on the acquisition. I have blue one like that for many years. Wouldn't care to trade mine either. It's a keeper.

If it's good enough for you, then it's all that matters.

Enjoy. It's one of the best.

Federal bulk, Federal Match and Remington Thunderbolt are not accurate through my experience. They have a high rate of bad primers, too. Eley and CCI are two of the best.

The Ruger MkII's are solid guns that can take a high round count.

When friends come over, we always shoot the Ruger MK's,,

Mine is on top, the other one is my wife's.

She does not like the "heavy" steel MK,,,

Most bang for the buck of any of the .22 handguns, no not a K22 or Diamondback, but not nearly the $$$ either.

When someone ask me about their first handgun, a Ruger .22 is always my suggestion.

ruger MKII

That's a really nice MKII-enjoy:) For over 50 years, I've always owned at least one Ruger .22. My current most favorite pistol to shoot is this 10 year old MKIII with many thousands of rounds of enjoyment, and a few "goodies" added over the years:D
