Ruger SP101 grips

Does anybody make decent compact grips for the Sp101 at a reasonable price? I tried the Pachmayr Compacts-they felt great but after a few rounds they got loose and could not be tightened. Junk grips. I contacted Lyman about 3 weeks ago, but have had no response yet (maybe I`ll start another thread on the crappy Lyman customer service I`ve experienced a couple times).
I know Hogues` are great grips, but they look too large for concealed carry.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't have any experience with them on a SP101, but you might want to check out Eagle Secret Service grips. They're similar to Spegel boot grips. I used to have a set of those on a 642 and they worked well for me. If I couldn't get Spegel boot grips for a gun, I'd probably try the Eagle Secret Service grips. They might be a little pricey, though. It's been a while since I've looked at them.

I have used Hogue rubber and wood grips on my SP-101. Both concealable, with the wood slightly fuller. Neither loosen. I like them better than the little boot grips a couple of my J-Frame S&Ws came with that I can only get 2 fingers on....ymmv

SP101 grips

I just today replaced the Hogue grip on my SP101 with a pair of Eagle Secret Service grips. They are shorter and more CC friendly than the Hogues. The only downside is the price; I was able to get mine on an on line auction for about 1/2 of retail.

I've kept the factory grip on my SP, partly because longer grips won't fit either my pistol rug for it or the factory box.

Just one factor to consider.

If I replace, it'll be with rubber Hogues.

I find the OEM Ruger grips to be about as good as it gets for comfort and carry. Good purchase and recoil absorbing. You might find a grip that is a little more comfortable, but I doubt it will be more compact.

I had two different SP101's, I try all different kinds of grips to see what I like best. I still have an uncle mikes that is slightly longer than the grip frame , but still a two finger grip, and a set of Gemini Custom grips that I got used, two finger grip, and a slightly different angle. I liked the original grips, and I liked both of these. I also had Hogue grips, but was not a fan of these.

The Hogue grips were the largest of the grips that I tried on my SP101's. They worked well for range time, but I felt that the smaller grips were better in the concealment department. I also have tried the rubber Hogues on Smith's, and did not like them there either, they just do not seem to fit me well. I also did not like the rubber that the Hogues were made from seemed too grippy, and soft for my tastes.

I had a SP101 for quite a while and found the Uncle Mike's boot grip and the factory to be the best for concealment. The rubber Hogue best if you actually want to shot magnum rounds, wood Hogue if you want it to look good. Had the same problem with a Pachmayr coming loose.

The nylon hogue grips (instead of rubber) are a good combination of rigidity, concealability, and shootability. Cheap too.

I bought a set of Altamont checkered rubber with checkered rosewood inserts. I like the size of the original factories, but thought they were ugly and cheap looking. The checkering on both the rubber and inserts of the new grips seems to help with recoil-especially shooting .357 ammunition.
