Got an email from Ruger today:

September 30, 2020

Sturm, Ruger and Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) announced today that its offer to purchase substantially all of the Marlin Firearms assets was accepted by Remington Outdoor Company, Inc. and approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama. The Company will pay the $30 million purchase price from cash on hand at the time of closing, which is expected to occur in October.

"The value of Marlin and its 150-year legacy was too great of an opportunity for us to pass up," said Ruger President and CEO Chris Killoy. "The brand aligns perfectly with ours and the Marlin product portfolio will help us widen our already diverse product offerings."

The transaction is exclusively for the Marlin Firearms assets. Remington firearms, ammunition, other Remington Outdoor brands, and all facilities and real estate are excluded from the Ruger purchase. Once the purchase is completed, the Company will begin the process of relocating the Marlin Firearms assets to existing Ruger manufacturing facilities.

"The important thing for consumers, retailers and distributors to know at this point in time," continued Killoy, "is that the Marlin brand and its great products will live on. Long Live the Lever Gun."

Hopefully it will be a positive change for the Marlin brand which has suffered ( at least according to the Internet) since becoming part of Remington.

Look forward to seeing what happens and what is offered in the future.

Been following this news myself. Glad to hear Ruger is taking over. Am sure they will do justice to the Marlin name.

I have a lot of older pre safety Marlins but never bought any of the Remington made ones as they were were to hit and miss and the miss most times from what posters said turned into a headache. I like Ruger and am happy they bought Marlin. I read today that they have already started moving the machinery.

This is certainly good news! I tend to think highly of Ruger (as a proud owner of a 10/22 and a Mini 14), so I hope this means new Marlin lever guns will be of higher quality than the ones built under Remington control.

I'm curious to see what happens with the Marlin Model 60. Millions have been sold and they've always been more popular than Ruger's 10/22. Will Ruger keep making them or just eliminate the competition?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this sounds like the beginning of a comeback in the making for Marlin.

I lost interest in a Marlin 1895 because I had just hear way too many negative things about it and had planned on getting a Rossi R92 instead. Nothing against Rossi, but it's pretty sad that Marlin's quality control had slipped so far that a Rossi seemed like a higher quality option compared to Freedom Group's Remlin. Oh, and if you that that's hyperbole, think again! Remington's CEO was Anthony Accitelli, who was previously the CEO of Taurus International, and by all accounts, the quality of Taurus firearms has improved since he left, coincidence?

I expect that when it comes to Marlin's serial number prefixes, that "SR" marked Marlin's will be valued about the previous "RM" marked rifles, and just below the old and highly sought after "JM" marked models.

Best news I've heard in 2020. They should make hats and tee shirts. "Long Live The Lever Gun"

The 39 is a personal favorite of mine, and my late father.

This is a great move for Ruger to save Marlin. With all the latest Ruger offerings that fill market gaps, it could be a big boost to the firearms industry. Will be interesting to see what innovations the new Marlin will release.

Has anyone bought one of the Marlin Dark series? How has QC been for them? Wonder how Ruger would enhance that line?

IMHO, I think they expand the 60 product line and introduce a similar 'Dark' series.

It's verboten because of antitrust laws for a company to say this openly but yes, one of the main reasons for merging companies is eliminating competition.

BUT

Having a tube feed semi auto ready to sell might be a valuable asset if there is a GCA 2021.
