I'm putting this here even though it's about ammo for greater viability. The lounge gets the most views.

Im posting this as a courtesy heads up to fellow shooters, not to start a panic. Anyway so here it goes. It seems more sanctions have been added against Russian and as of now it appears to be covering any and all things related to firearms. This includes ammo. IT ONLY PERTAINS TO RUSSIA. If you shoot the steel stuff you know what you should or shouldn't do. I will say this though. As much of it as has been imported I don't see it becoming extinct any time soon.

This is not to argue which is better or why you don't like steel case. Just a heads up to people

We shouldn't be supporting Russia anyway. But "seems" and "appears" aren't very certain words. Who imposed these sanctions and when and upon what?

I am under the impression that we arent getting most of the imports from Russia but place like Ukraine, and other break away/ former Soviet countries. That being said, its still an uphill battle to get stuff today. Rifles, ammo etc just aren't getting to the US market like it was. It think its many reasons...

That being said, I was buying while it was cheap and around.

My Mosins eat and say more please, my 5.45 AK wants it too.

My Eastern bloc pistols are asking for more but its not cheap any more...

I like the stuff, the cans, the crates even the opener!

Like most silly laws they have a go around for rifles.... :)

That article is misleading. There is no go around. KC (Kalashnikov Concern) cannot provide parts, machines or manpower and on top of that KC is suing Kalashnikov USA for using its name without permission. It was essentially RWC (prior name) way to promote itself. Every they make here has to be made here or sourced from parts already in the country.

You can still get those crate but only not Russian. Bulgarian, Romanian...etc...

Wolf is actually an American company, always has been. They just package Russian ammo under the Wolf name. Just like Wolf Gold 223 is made by PMC

And he stopped off in Tushka at that Pop's Knife and Gun place
Bought a SKS rifle and a couple full cases
Of that steel core ammo with the Berdan primers
From some East bloc nation that no longer needs 'em

We have to buy when it's affordable and available. The wolf 45cap ball was $6.20 / 50. $62.00/500rds. The 9mm was $5 a box/50. If u didn't buy it then shame on u. The last time I purchased 22lr it was $200/5k. I remember 880rds/7.62x54r Czech silver tip was delivered for $85.

Lol I don't think I was old enough back then

Right after any ammo shortage watch for deals when it recovers.

I shoot steel cased ammo out of my chrome lined bores and chambers.

True. With so much of imported over the years I don't see it disappearing or becoming collectable any time soon if ever. When 5.45 surplus was banned 3 years ago there was an initial rush to buy buy buy. Prices went up a little but ever since they have stayed consistent and there is still plenty to be found. Before the great panic it was priced at $150 per tin (1080 rounds). During and right after the panic it was $175 -$200. Today I still buy it for $214 despite it being banned from import.

While I wouldn't necessarily call it "collectible," the steel core Norinco stuff (in the yellow, silver, or green boxes) from 20 years ago has become very desirable. Nobody would've imagined that at the time. To be fair I do not know how much of that came in compared to the Tula/Wolf ammo of today although it was likely considerably less.

Kalashnikov Concern, as I heard it, is the new name for the Izhmash Factory in Izhevsk that was selling Saigas to the US. The name was changed after Mikhail Kalashnikov passed away.

RWC was not the original importer as of late; it was Russian American Armory Company. They pulled Clyde's contract when he stopped selling 100,000 units a month. Shame, as Clyde and company are really good people.

Then they started selling to whomever.

I remember Izhmash suing MOLOT Machine years ago for using their patent on AKs.....and won. Other countries did not honor their patent rights. The way they did Clyde after all he did for them was wrong, so what goes around comes around in my opinion.

Never heard about a lawsuit between RWC and KC. Love to read about it.

All that said, Golden Tiger ammo is my favorite and I have a few rounds in case they stop selling those to us.

copied from Wikipedia: " In November 2012, A proposal was made to merge Izhmash with Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Izhmekh) under the new name "Kalashnikov". As of 13 August 2013, Izhmash and Izhevsk Mechanical Plant have been merged and formally renamed Kalashnikov Concern.[1]"

The Russian Izmash Saiga Sporter is a awesome accurate rifle in 223 & in 308win. The Russians did admit there not as accurate in the Russian calibers. If the Saiga sporter was offered in 7.62x54r there sales would of soared with all the cheap surplus ammo around. I asked Clyde but the Russians wouldn't listen. I also asked about a maintenance service kit for the saigas but that didn't fly too.

One advantage to using the cheaper imported ammo is no reloading.

The orginal Chinese norinco ammo in 7.62x39 is very accurate in the norinco sks.

KC stated that they didn't authorize the use of "Kalashnikov" name and was going to pursue legal action.

I remember at one point MOLOT and IZY were going to merge but that never happened. Not sure what they can sure MOLOT for since MOLOT makes RPKs and AKSU not AK74,105,101..etc...etc
