A plastic bushing wrench makes it easy.Did you try cocking the hammer and holding the slide 1/4" or so to the rear while turning it? That helps sometimes.

My ATI barrel bushing and barrel were almost impossible to get out the first time I broke them down (with no tool). I was cussing up a storm!!!

I'd def say that it got past the QC Dept in the Phillipines.

We need to see the pics of the newly purchased 1911.
Hope you enjoy it

Be careful when you remove the bushing.
The recoil spring plug and spring can shoot out of there like a rocket!

It's normal for a bushing to be a snug fit on a new gun, that's why the
bushing removal tool exists. I had to use it to field strip my new ATI
1911. I bought the tool many years ago when I bought my series 70
Colt with the spring collet bushing. The tool is just a simple piece of
sheet metal, probably a stamping. Can't cost very much. Mine has a
tab that holds the recoil spring plug in place while you turn the
bushing. Too handy to try to get by without one.
