A good neighbor and friend just bought a 9mm yesterday. I never heard nor seen them till then. Hes says hes done his research and they are good. They are made in Daytona. About a hour away he likes the stainless slide. Will give you report on this.It ran him in the $230.00 range. Me I will stay with my L C 9 in lighter package 9mm. Tired and true flawless for thousands rounds so far. Not slamming lower end arms. I have 3 Kel techs 9mm , .380, and 32. All been flawless and thousands threw them too.

There were reports that early production SCCY pistols had issues with pins walking out. Didn't see that when I shot the CPX-2 my wife's buddy owns. The DAO trigger pull is smooth and the wider grip compared to a Ruger LC9s reduces felt recoil. It ran well in my hands.

SCCY were supposed to bring out a similar gun in .380 called the CPX-3. They changed the design a little to make the lock up tighter and AR actually tested an example. Since then they turned into vaporware. That's sad, because the success of the 380 EZ shows that there probably is a market for a compact, 10 round pistol.

Weirdly, Sig quit producing similar pistols (P250 and P290 RS) just before the 380 EZ was announced and was a roaring success.
 
They appear to be (and by all accounts I've read are) reliable American-made budget-priced firearms.

That being said, in my area they aren't that much cheaper than other budget-priced firearms made by other manufacturers with bigger names. Case in point, in my area, the SCCY is about the same price as a S&W SDVE (or whatever it is they're calling the Sigma these days) at $250. Now I don't have experience with either, so AFAIK the SCCY might be a smoother-operating firearm, and granted that the SCCY is a more compact firearm, but if I were looking at budget-priced semiautomatic pistols, then I would sooner reach for the S&W because it's a name/brand that I am familiar with which has a long, storied reputation for quality/reliability.

As a rule in purchasing a pistol, the gun should fit your hand from your elbow to the end of your index finger. The tip of your finger should be at the front top portion of the trigger guard when extended forward. If it is too long or too short, you will have a tough time repositioning the finger to the trigger. The same holds true when purchasing a pair of shoes. I would not purchase one on line or buy a pair without first trying them on my feet. The same holds true with a pistol. Visit a range that rents guns and try the different brands of firearms before you make the purchase and be happy with the fit and research the evaluations. If one of my students asked me the same question, that is how I would approach them for guidance. Now, I have knowledge of CPX-1 and the SCCY is double action only and is cam locked. The trigger pull is extremely hard with over 9 pounds of pull and the end of the pull just about reaches the end of the trigger guard with hard reset. The mag is steel and a plastic mag catch which will wear out in time. The gun has loose breach but plenty of lock up. The safety is Ambi and the extractor is well designed. The gun weight is 15 oz and the slide is 3 1/2 inches. The magazine is hard loading by hand after four rounds which you will need a mag loader to finish the reloading. I hope this helps in somewhat of an evaluation but before I purchase a gun, I want it to fit my hand and be reliable. This gun is strictly for self defense and at close ranges.

OP, the Skyy's a cosmetically improved Kel-Tec P11. Some
say (one of?) the founder(s) previously worked at Kel-Tec
for several years.

Good to know my P11 is hard chrome model. Its not one I carry but have had it now about 8 years or so. I use it for plinker at range sometimes its been flawless and has well over 1000 threw it
 
I have an SCCY and it sits in the safe. Not reliable enough for CCW and I have way to many guns to spend the time to sort it out.

I don't know if the CPX-2 I fired has a different mechanism, but there was no way it had a 9 lb pull. As for reset, surely that's a non-issue on a DAO pistol.
 
Yes, The SCCY is a P-11 knock-off. That being said, I like the look of the SCCY. I have a P-11 which rides in my cargo shorts in the summer. I have it because it uses S&W 56xx and 69xx mags (and 2nd gens as well).

And the KelTec P-11 has an 8.5ish# trigger too.

As I recall, the gun exploded while being shot by a regular poster over on defensivecarry. The gun was loaded with factory FMJ practice ammo and there was no evidence of a squib, to him it appeared the barrel couldn't handle the pressure of a 9mm cartridge.

I'm fine with cheapish guns and have two Keltecs and some Taurus pistols, but that SCCY pic has kept me from being interested at any price.

I will let everyone know how he does with this one I am sure he will want me to run a few threw it too. For me I am not in market for another 9mm. I like LC9 has always fit my needs and was an E D C for my last 5 years of work before retireing. Pocket carried.In black hawk holster.That was the most I could pull off pocket carry. This sky is a bit bigger

My LGS sends a box of them back for repairs about every month... he can’t wait for his supply to be gone and will never stock again... female customers seem to be drawn to the various colors which apparently is a top selling feature.
 
I have one. I like it. It is my regular CC gun. I have about 500 rounds through it. Like most new semi-s it took a little break in (I shot about 100 rounds before I carried it. For the folks that are used to shooting striker fired guns it will probably not work very well for them. Us old revolver guys can make it work. Very long DAO type trigger pull and one has to be careful to let the trigger go all the way foreword to reset. I am not a 9mm fan but do like the 10-11 shot capability over my J frame's 5 and it is only about a 1/4 inch thicker than most of the single stack guns out there (Glock 43, Shield) Mine is not ammo sensitive. It has shot steel case, alum. case, brass case, FMJ, TC, HP, RN and lead without a hitch. I guess it probably isn't everyones cup o tea but it works for me.
 
I don't own a SCCY but have shot one. Shot it better than any other compact 9 that I've tried. Only compliant is the extremely long trigger pull
like GB mentioned. And I'm mainly a revolver shooter.
 
We will be going outdoor range thursday .I am kinda sorta holding my breath on this one for him to see how it runs. I see a lot of mixed reviews after looking um up. I hope it runs well for him will let you all know. Got tell ya if I was in market for a compact 9 ( which I am not )after looking up reviews I would have passed on this one. I think he bought it for its carry cap.
