How common are the 14-4 with 8 3/8(or 8 3/4 barrel if they ever made one? There's one for sale near me he has orginal box and cleaning kit with it.

Was a standard cataloged gun back in the day.
I bought a matched pair 14 and 17 8-3/8 revolvers right off the shelf at the LGS.

Not really all that rare, except the fact they have been out of production since the 1990s. Rarer to find one with box and cleaning tools intact.

I've been searching for one too but want it for shooting targets.

I'd guess it depends on what you are into. If you are a collector, you'll probably over pay a few bucks every time for a nice one with the box & Papers (I'm guessing matching grips too ?)

But how often does one that complete come along ? If you are looking for a shooter, then you'll have a very nice one that is complete. I'd probably give you $800 on the high end for it. See if you can talk him down a bit but $800.00 is OK in my book. Just do it now.....if you don't like it, I'll buy it from you for what it cost you.Really.....

I paid $620 for a 14-3 8-3/8" barrel in 98% condition with no box recently. I have also wondered what percentage of the Model 14s had the long barrel.

$800 is high, but the one I bought was listed at $799, so there may be some wiggle room. You haven't said anything about condition, just box & tools, but I assume the gun is in high condition for that kind of price.

But really, this gun will pay for itself, because you can buy MUCH SMALLER TARGETS. I just buy little stick-on 10-rings now, LOL. You'll love it.

OK Got it now ! So that's a good argument I can use on the wife when I say, "look what followed me home from the LGS tonight'
LOL
