A Forum member recently returned his rifle to S&W due to an Out Of Battery Discharge "OOB". He's asking if he can trust the rifle to operate absent OOB after he gets it back.

This poll is only for those who have returned their rifle to S&W due to an OOB issue.

If you had another OOB after S&W repaired your rifle, please post a reply here as to the number of rounds fired since original repair, ammo type and any circumstances that might be pertinent.

That would be...um....ME! :)

I'm watching the poll. Haven't fired mine yet, so can't contribute.

Phil,

Great poll. I've been wondering for quite a while if the fixed rifles have been permanently fixed. I'd be very surprised if there is a significant number of follow up failures. Of course, to the person with a follow up OOB it's a 100% failure rate.

I also wonder if there is something a shooter might be doing operationally to up the probability of an OOB. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

When I confirmed my stovepipe jam, I was on a bench, pulling the trigger, watching the bolt, pulling the trigger if the bolt was closed, repeat. Very slowly- 1 shot every 5 seconds. After the first jam that blew the butt of the case apart, I got 3 stovepipes with a live round in the chamber in quick succession.

If that causes a jam.....

I might have to go shoot mine so that we can get some data points!

LOL!

With as many reports of OOB and returns on this Forum there sure hasn't been much participation in this poll so far. Maybe a lot of folks are busy shooting. :)

I'd also like to see numbers on how many OOBs are being experienced with the newest manufactured rifles from the factory. It could be that the problem has been fully revolved, yet we are still getting occasional OOB reports from people buying old stock, or people finally shooting their rifles after owning it for months.

Mine was a month old when it jammed and ordered fresh from the factory as my dealer doesn't stock the model. The night it came home we stepped off the deck and fired off 1/2 a clip (I live on a ranch and can do those kinds of things...).

How do I figure out the age of it?

Just checked- SN DTZxxxx

After I sent my 15-22 and got it back the first time i experienced another OOB discharge. I sent it back again and the second time was the charm. i've put over 2000 rounds through it with not a single OOB. The two times I had OOB discharges I was using Winchester ammo and since I got it back the second time I have only shot Federal 550 packs. don't know if that really has anything to do with it, but I'm only going to shot Federal ammo in my rifle from now on.

The 15-22 should be able to shoot ANY 22lr ammo reliably, I hate that S&W and others are trying to use that as a scapegoat.

walterg, what month was the work completed on your second return?

I got the rifle back in early February. I figured that the ammo manufactor shouldn't matter I'm just going to stick with what I know works. Plus, it only cost $16 for a box of 550 Federal.

Had sent mine in due to several OOB's and ultimately caused my extractor to go missing.
Since I got her back she has been flawless.
I even shoot Remingtons now and then, it has no problems with it.
It eats up anything I give it (Brands of Ammo I mean)
