s&w 1905 age

Need some help to identify my great grandfathers service pistol its a very early 1905 m&p revolver with serial number c3673 patent dates listed on barrel are feb 6 1906,sept 14 1909 and dec 29 1914 it also has 38 s&w special ctg on the 4” barrel.It has 5 screws and a hand ejector model with the large s&w insignia on the right side of the frame.Any help on age and value would be appreciated

its a very early 1905 m&p revolver with serial number c3673

It is an interesting revolver, for reasons I will state below.

However, it is NOT a "very early 1905." It is, in fact, a post-WWII Military & Police revolver, probably assembled in March or April 1948. Nearby serial numbers shipped in May 1948.

Here are the interesting features:
It still has the single line address (Made in U.S.A.)
It still has patent dates on the barrel.

Those features rarely show up on C prefix revolvers.

The stocks on it are much earlier than the gun. That style was used from 1920 until about 1929.
 
Thanks for all the great info.I really appreciate the knowledge you possess ,and helping me identify more about a family heirloom.The stocks that are on the gun confused me along with the patent no. on the barrel.Thanks again for taking the time to share.
 
Thanks. C8583 is the highest number located so far with the one line address. It is owned by a Forum member.

C8583 is in my possession. I don't think it has patent date on the barrel but I will dig it out to see.

It does not have the dates on the barrel, as expected.
