A buddy of mine won it in Local Gun Store drawing. That was promoted by Smith and Wesson.

It's Brand New! Never fired other than factory.

He's wanting to sell it to me? I know nothing about the S&W line of 1911's. It's the E series stainless full sized. It's a beautiful gun. I own a ton of Colt 1911's. And love my Colts and Kimbers. Biut i really like the features of the E series. I Love the grips on it, with the E lasered in them.

My question is? Any known issues? Problems? Worth? ETC.

He's asking $800 for it? It's Brand New in the box! Would you buy it for $800? I might be able to get it for $750?

Thanks in advance for any help or info!

It's not a bad price since you wouldn't have to pay tax or transfer fee.
Grabagun has the sku# 108482 for $791, but you'd have to pay shipping and transfer fee, so would end up about $815 to $825. Plus you get to handle this one.

Offer him $750. I think it's a fair price.

By the Way, I would love to have that gun. It would probably be the 1911 I'd buy right now (IF I had the money to do so):)

I believe I paid $767.00 for mine, but as mentioned, there was still freight involved, so if you can snag it for $750.00, I'd jump on it!

For $750.00 thats a very fine gun. Most of us would love to have one. I for one have Never heard of any issues with this model other then most folks Love them. They are a very fine shooting gun to own.

I believe I paid $769 for an S&W 1911 in 2005. It's the model that immediately followed the "Billboard" 1911. I'd buy it again in a second. For a stock, factory 1911, it's far more accurate than it should be, and it's completely reliable. I bought it as a back country black bear protection gun while trout fishing.

108482 is the basic stainless model in the E-Series. The only change you need to do to make it ready is to replace the full length guide rod (FLGR), and replace with the military two piece recoil spring plug and guide rod.

The FLGR has been shown to offer no advantage (I don't care what the makers and sellers of them say), and it brings a number of disadvantages.

First among them is the need for a tool to remove the bushing, and second is that one handed charging by pushing the bottom half of the slide on a hard object is no longer possible. Lastly, and this is the reason the manufacturers install the FLGR - a press check is impossible.

Manufacturers don't want people to be able to do a press check the old fashioned way because some imbecile will, sooner or later, blow off the tip of his finger. I say, "don't do that!"

I like the Ed Brown stainless plug and standard military guide rod, but others make them as well. Those parts are drop in, so they are easy to replace. Keep your FLGR so you can return the pistol to stock in case of a sale.

While I agree that I do not see any real significant advantage to the FLGR, I think the notion that they make field stripping more difficult is highly overblown. If you don't care for it and want to replace it, that's one thing. To characterize it's replacement as something "which needs to be done" is something which is highly debateable.

By this point in time I hope you own it already! I have one, love it and you will appreciate the front checkered grip that would cost you another $120 or so if you had to add it.
Have had mine a few years, initial only problem was the base of the brass was getting imprinted pretty heavy and had numerous ejected casing getting dinged hard on the way out. A trip back to S&W got it all straightened out and it has performed flawlessly with reload SWC's and all factory loads.
Great value, one of the nicest looking 1911's you can buy for under $1k IMO.
