S&W .22 in a k-frame? what's out there?

I have the models 63, 617-?, and 17-4. If I'm going to carry in the woods or fishing I prefer the the 63. I carried a model 65 around the last fishing trip in the creek but it was heavy and combersome. I think the only reason to carry the k frame is one preference and two if you run out of bullets you might be able to throw it with a little more foot pound of energy. I'd go 63 if it were me. Don't get me wrong the 617 is beutiful and rugged, the 17 has great balance, and the 63 well it has my heart. Doeboy

Square/Round Frames?

Was the Model 17 or 18 offered in a Round butt frame?

The only ones I have seen on the auction sites are all square butts....not that it would be a major issue, I just prefer the round butt K-frames. I also suppose a little work with a dremel could modify the frame to a round butt easily enough...but would that be grounds for banishment from S&W to make such a modification?

I don't think so as long as you didn't start with a collectible condition example. I buy 'distressed' guns or already refinished on occasion so that I can get them cheap, modify them and refinish or convert to another caliber or configuration and be guilt free. Plus I end up with a gun built exactly to my desires!

without a 22 lr revolver all is chaos, get a 17 or 18 and discover peace.

k frames

question
why are some full lugs (my 617) and some not (my 17-3)?

Smith started offering the 22 K frames in stainless about the time of their new full lug being introduced so it got swept up in the new "fad".

However they did make some 17-6s with the full lug but not for long! And they made a 17-4 with a heavy barrel with no lug at all. And a 617 exclusive for Ashland Shooting Supply with the same heavy barrel with no lug at all.
