S&W 27-2 6inch

I agree with Model29-26.5, no box, no documents, replacement stocks, and shows signs of having been used makes it a very nice shooter grade 27-2.

Are you sure about the 1977 date? The gun appears to have a standard trigger. The presentation case, target trigger, target hammer and target stocks became standard in 1975.

6" and 8-3/8" model 27-2's typically came with a Patridge front sight blade. Yours appears to be a ramp with an insert. A good close-up photo would help determine if the blade was modified.

I like it.

The hammer is the target version and the trigger is .265" in width. It kinda looks like the serrations have been removed. The ramp front sight looks correct, but the insert looks a mite shallow.

Replacing the factory-original hammer and trigger on a 29 of this vintage with another one of each, of the period but different configuration, is an easy task. It is also reversible.

If the gun is going to be used, why shouldn't the owner make this minor change, to suit his needs/wants?

The front sight configuration is a little less friendly to reversible, but again, why not? Personally I don't appreciate the typical gun show front sight insert job.
