I have a pair of I believe original that came off my model 28-2. These original ones were taking off the 28-2 and replaced with a newer set so I wouldn't scratch up the old set. Okay now for the question. The original stocks or grips are in pretty much excellent condition and I would like to sell them because I no longer have the 28-2. I know they werent a s prefex . I have no idea what I should ask for the original grips, so any help here would be appreciated. TIA

To be honest, those stocks are probably not original to your Model 28-2 unless you (or the original owner?) specially ordered them. Model 28s and Highway Patrolman were usually shipped with the smaller magna stocks, and not oversized target stocks. The target stocks were typically shipped on other N-frame revolvers like the 25s, 27s, 29s, and 57s (and their SS counterparts). That's not to say that they are not original, but I would doubt it. With that said, I agree with xfuzz and stansdds on the value range. Good luck.

They don't appear to be a matched pair looking at the last pic. Looks like probably 2 halves put together to match color?
I'd guess they weren't perfectly aligned in the photo and are a matched set. They look really nice to me and would date between 1967 and 1973 based on no diamonds and the blued steel circle inserts.

Just an FYI...
These recently sold on ebay and other similar stocks actually went for more.

 Holy cow! That's crazy! Those are twice what I paid for a set about a year ago.

I do see some surface scratches and a small mar in the checkering, but overall a nice set. I would say $125 would be a fair price. Good luck with the sale.

As far back as I remember, the target stocks could always be ordered on the 28s. I stumbled across this unfired 28 equipped with target stocks and so noted on the end label on the box. I don't know if they hand-picked the stocks on this one, but they are might purdy. The gun dates to September 1980, according to Roy.

You are correct. The Model 28 did not have as many options for the buyer to select as the Model 27, but there were a few and target stocks was likely the most popular option.

I recently sold a set of NOS "N frame " target stocks on this very forum for $200. + $10. shipping, and the buyer had no problem with the price.

They are a matched set and quite stunning. The surface scratch was just a smudge and the small mar in the checkering was just something stuck in it, mashed potatoes?, ha, anyway just wiped right out.
They are resting comfortably on my old service revolver, Mod 57 from around 1975, making it great again as I had modified the original grips back then to fit my hand better.
Thanks Steven for passing them along to me.
