I already owned two. One is a short mag and the other a long mag. Both parkerized. I shot both of them enough to be satisfied that they are pretty good mechanically and am satisfied that either one of those would be a good home defense shotgun and the long tube is actually used for that purpose, loaded with #4 buckshot. I got one today that is parked, except for the mag extension, and has a pistol grip side fold rear stock. All of this is marked S&W. Made in Japan to S&W specifications. For a little over $200.00 I wasn't gonna leave it sitting in the shop. I collect quality riot guns, many that I carried on duty as a LEO with over 40 years service. I got a little of everything and these 3000's seem to be as good as the rest of them. I had a bad experience with a 916 so I don't have any more of them. I bought one ANIB for what I thought was a real good deal at a show for $150.00 but when I got home I found out the firing pin was broken. I had it repaired and sold it after telling the new owner about the problem.

I've got 10+ Police/Military shotguns from 870's to Benelli M1S90. The S&W I bought 30 years ago is one of my favorites.

I got one of those last September from the estate of a retired Florida game warden. Like all of his guns, it was filthy nasty. Multiple layers of dirt did a fair job of protecting the finish. The inside of the barrel had some pits but a little work with a cordless drill and a tool that looked like a auto brake cylinder hone on an extension took most of that out. The wood was very banged up.

Mine had a aftermarket rubber recoil pad on it, which had petrified. I replaced it myself, and did a presentable job. I swapped it to a friend and he put it inside the newal on his staircase.

If you took the shotgun in the above photo, poured STP all over it, rolled it down a Florida dirt road, locked it up in a truck for several weekends in the summer, then dropped it into the Okeechobee River a time or two...you would have an idea what my gun looked like when I got it.
