Hello all, im new to the forum and I would really appreciate it if I could get some help in fixing this problem with my s&w 36 round butt. I went to the range today and the revolver wouldn't fire double action, the cylinder wouldn't lock up and the firing pin would strike outside of the primer. In single action the cylinder would lock up perfectly, but in double action the cylinder didn't lock up exactly where it should be and therefore it didn't fire.
Please help me out on how to fix this. Thank you.

There is a button on the bottom of the window, it's called the cylinder stop. I'd figure this is in need of service. In the FAQ sticky above you can read about taking your gun apart and at the very least, clean and oil the parts on the insides. Perhaps it is just dirty and the cleaning/lube job will correct the malfunction of the stop.
If the stop spring and stop appear in good working order then you will need to adjust the stop so it rises further up as it connects with the cylinder. If the adjustment can't be done, then you will need to order a oversized stop and have it fitted.

I took the gun apart and cleaned and lubed the parts. The stop and stop spring appeared to be alright. After the clean/lube the problem diminished but not completely, it looks like the cylinder stop doesn't pop up fast enough or strong enough maybe. How can I adjust the stop to make it rise further? Thank you very much for helping me out!

In The FAQs on this Page http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-smithing/94072-faqs.html there is a great explanation of the fitting process for the stop.. Also a nice drawing of the adjustment surface that would need to be stoned to raise it slightly.. Maybe the stop spring was installed wrong & is bound up..New Spring?? GOOD LUCK & Welcome to the forum..
