Pre-model 10 from 1953. Became the Model 10 in 1957. Looks like it is in great condition, nice case coloring on the hammer/trigger and the magna stocks are likely original; take them off (carefully) and see if the sn is stamped on the right panel. Probably worth in the $500+ range; more if you have the box and papers. You can use most any 38 Special ammunition. Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum.

".38 S&W Special" is the official name because Smith & Wesson created the cartridge over a hundred years ago. It's just shortened to ".38 Special" for brevity.

"CTG" is just an abbreviation for "cartridge".

It probably would be better to shoot standard pressure .38 Special ammo in that nice revolver instead of higher-pressure stuff marked "+P", though it would handle an occasional load of the hotter ammunition.

You'll enjoy shooting that gun, and it will still be going strong when your great-grandkids inherit it.

This was confusing to me years ago as there were two cartridges with similar names: 38 S&W Special and 38 S&W. The two cartridges are not the same and are not interchangeable. As long as you ask for 38 Special (with or without S&W) you should be OK.

Welcome to the FORUM! Use of standard .38 special will be no problem. Just stay away from hot stuff. (no reason for it really) Bob
