Changing the barrel 'should' work. Occasionally we'll have people on this forum that it doesn't quite work and may need some tweaking. Its meant to be a tight fit. In my case I had no problems.

Not sure how old your 41 is but on my 1970's era version and when I tried putting a field length barrel I got on ebay the top strap interfered with the slide and when I measured the barrel the top strap was 4-5 thousands of an inch thicker. That being said from what I have heard most barrels will interchange but occasionally one will need some fitting.

Most of the time it should go right on but as Troystat states on occasion you may have to do some fitting to it to make it work correctly.

According to my old edition SCSW it was made about 1993. As far as I know all barrels made for the M41 SHOULD fit. I know I have a few barrels myself for mine and have fit a few friends barrels on my M41 just to try them. No problemo!

s&w 41--barrel substitution

I have two M-41s, both with the short (5") barrels. After much searching, I located a new (in the S&W sealed wrapper) S&W M-41 7" barrel at Numrich Arms and bought it.

I couldn't get it to fit and wasn't about to force it on, so I sent the pistol plus the new barrel to Springfield for proper fitting and a 'tune-up' of the pistol. Didn't cost much and I had it back within six weeks.

I'm very pleased with the performance of the M-41 with either barrel, but with my 70-yr old eyes, I can't shoot tighter groups with either barrel with the original iron sights but figured if I ever sell it, the two-barrel set will command a much-better price. But not for a LONG TIME!

Echo47 Now thats the Spirit with real good long range planning as well. Good for you.

How right you are Kidcom. I believe any M41 with a U on the beginning of the serial no. is from the year 1997
