My 4506, 4566 and 4516 needed to be inspected this last annual qualification. I usually do it myself as I'm am (was) a S&W armorer, but as my certification lapsed I let another guy half my age inspect the pistols. I came back from lunch and my 4566, which is a decock-only pistol, had its decocking/safety assembly in pieces on the table and the little circular spring that powers the decock-only function was all bent and mangled. The armorer that touched it said it was broken and he tried to fix it.

So, Midway is out of the $60 complete decock-only assembly and we don't have spare parts at work. I'm the last of 3500 to use a S&W 3rd Gen. and I need just the spring that powers the decock-only decocker/safety if anyone has a spare. I'll buy it gladly.

I moved the standard decocker/safety from a spare 4506 into the 4566 and it works fine, but I'm upset a guy half my age screwed up my pistol. I asked him about his S&W factory certification (as mine elapsed) and he said it was for the M&P. He said he'd never seen a 3rd Gen before.

I wish he'd stick to plastic guns.

If anyone had a spare part around let me know. I'll trade cash, or if you have a complete assembly and need a new SIG or H&K USP series magazine let me know.

Good Lord! I'd be hard pressed not to stab that guy in the head.;) Not certified on the gun and yet he messed with them anyway? I'd be livid.

Anyway, In examining the part I have, It looks to me like the spring is wound in place. I've looked mine over carefully and see no safe way to remove that spring without deforming it. I don't see any way to install one safely by hand either. Maybe it could be walked over from the right-hand side but I don't know.

Perhaps Fastbolt might chime in here. .

I think your best option would be to call the C/S line and get hold of the resident 3rd gen guru. explain the situation that this is your duty arm and see if they can wind a new spring on the part for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Cheers

I'm sure you looked here but there are a couple of springs in that area. Is it #5?

Nope, It's that big coil spring wound around the safety under the left side lever.

Yes, exactly.. It is the large coiled spring wound around the decocker. I may just have to get complete assembly as I don't see the spring being installed even if it were available.

Well, let us know what S&W says tomorrow:D I'm hopeful they can fix you up.
Perhaps a new spring wound on your lever? That'd be nice

Cheers

I don't believe that the spring is a service part. I've only ever seen it available as part of the decocker assembly.
