S&W .45acp Pre-25 5-Screw ???

Smith and Wesson .45 ACP (not .45 LC) Model 1955 with 6.5" barrel. This is the 5-screw model and should pre-date model numbers. Serial indicates it's a late 1956-early 1957 production date but I could be wrong. Gun looks to have been fired little, bore looks very good. Very wide target trigger, target hammer, and one of the best actions I've ever felt.

No unfortunately I do not have the original stocks. These appear to be some later N-Frame stocks from the 70s or 80s. I will post more photos shortly.

Is there an S&W logo on the right side-plate? I can't seem to see it in any of the pictures.

I'm not at home to confirm right now but just looking at the pictures I'm going to have to say there is no logo. I had not noticed before but now that you've pointed that out it is pretty odd.

Just an FYI, factory letters are taking 16-20 weeks.

I hope this is not against the rules,Just trying to help the seller out.The frame of your Gun is from a pre war N frame.Note the small S&W monogram on the left side of the frame,The pre war cylinder release latch and the domed hammer stud.The Barrel is a post war model of 1955 that has been added at some time in the past.I also see what appears to be concentric grooves on the side of the Hammer leading me to believe that the frame is from an early 1917 .45ACP.

Yes there are concentric grooves on the hammer. I believe you are correct. I guess it was too good to be true... I've won several times so I guess it won't kill me to lose this time.

Hmmm..... The seller reported the SN is S 160xxx. How could this SN be on a pre war frame? I know S&W does (did) some crazy stuff but this doesnt seem possible.

ETA: My mistake. The seller reported the SN in the ejector groove to be in the S160xxx range. so its on the barrel, not the frame. My apologies. This jives perfectly with what 05 was saying above.

Now there is no lanyard hole and the adjustable sight has me wondering as well. If it was put together then it was done really well.

It would be on the bottom of the grip frame with the stocks off.

There is no serial down there, it is blank. Is there a chance it's another frame from the end of the 5-screw era? Were there any other N-frames from the time when they quit putting the serial on the butt that it could be? I just can't see it being an early 1917 frame.

The serial number was always stamped on the bottom of the frame,It has been removed....

I absolutely won't discount that but I don't see anything to indicate that it was removed. I'm fairly certain it is the original bluing on the gun. I was under the impression that they stopped stamping the serial on the bottom of the butt in the late 50s. But keep in mind I'm the new guy so I'm likely wrong haha.

The lack of a serial number is a big RED FLAG! You may get some kind of a visit from the fellas at ATF

To be clear, there are numbers on this gun. There is a number on the crane and frame that I assumed were assembly numbers... S 59xx I believe. There is another number on the shroud... S 1603xx. I don't think any serial number has been removed, I think I'm just looking in the wrong places. There is no serial on the butt and I'm fairly certain there never was one.
