Hi. I just picked up a unique find. A Smith and Wesson Model 5946 with the badge of the Canada Dept of Fisheries and Oceans. I have only found similar ones with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In addition, the factory box shows Smith and Wesson Academy. Can anyone me what the Smith and Wesson Academy is, and has anyone come across any other examples of the 5946?

The S&W Academy is the factory conducted law enforcement training center. LE from all over, as well as military and "unspecified agencies" typically attend it. Basically they train the trainers. Wonder if it stayed in MA or moved to where the HQ is? I expect it moved.

Could be that the item was delivered to the Academy for use there, or from there it was delivered to the student and/or agency involved. Might be worth a letter to get the specifics.

The 5946 appears to have been the standard firearm for Canadian LE agencies. Some years back the Sergeant at Arms of Parliament dispatched a terrorist that tried to attack some people. As I recall, there was even a thread on it here that mentioned his 5946.

Here is a link to a Wikipedia article about the attack.

I don't think it mentions the specific firearm.
