Just got a 625-8 Jerrry Miculek 4" revolver, nice piece! However, I didn't like the smooth grips and installed Hogue grips. Anyway, this will be for target duty using reduced power 45acp. What I would like to know is, what difference is there between what I have and one without fancy grips and etching by way of price? Target hammer and trigger notwithstanding. Randy

I have a 625 PC that came with the multi-color grip. I replaced them with Crimson Trace laser grip. Like those much better.

The dash-8 is the most current iteration of the S&W Model 625. There are only 2 versions of the 625-8, the 625-8 JM model that you currently have and the 625-8 Performance Center model. The Performance Center model has a suggested retail price of $100 more than the JM model. The stocks/grips on the Performance Center model are similar in all manner to the JM model except they are a tri-color laminate and do not have JM stamped into the grips.

I have the JM. Some folks dislike it: they say the trigger pull is too heavy and there are sharp edges on the trigger. I do not mind these, having become accustomed to handling/shooting dozens of police revolvers over the years. Some say the bbl leads with handloads, but I use factory ball.

I've never handled the PC 625, but I would like to. If it's smoother, I would probably buy it. IMO, you can't go wrong with the JM, but the grips might need to be changed out.

While currently, the PC and JM versions are the only 625-8's available, there was a standard version of the 625-8. Essentially the same as the JM version but with Hogue rubber grips and no "billboard" JM on the side.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

A third version is non-PC, non-JM like this, not mine but same configuration. Very accurate revolver.

The 625-8 is one of my most favored revolvers, ever. I have shot THOUSANDS of my home cast bullets with excellent results. No leading, accuracy well under one inch at 25 yards off a rest, on demand. I shoot mostly target loads (200 gr. Mihec H&G SWC ahead of 4.0 grs. Of Bullseye or equivalent), however, I have also have put a few 250 gr. Keith bullets down thw tube. My speed load is a Lee 230 gr. T/C with either RIMZ or steel full moon clips.

Make no mistake, this revolver is a GREAT all around revolver.

I like these stocks on my JM. Tried a few things prior. Congrats on your 625! Bob

Shot my first match last night, part of the course requires single-hand, double action shooting. My new toy may need a trigger job, horrendous results. Any ideas? Supposedly this is as good as it will get. Randy

Randy;
I replaced my springs with a Jerry Miculek matched set of springs and set the double action to 9.0 lbs and my single action to 3.0 lbs. i also fit a pair oF Pachmayr grips. I installed a Red Dot sight. This is a shooting machine!

there is another...

there is another 625-8 version out there... 160935 (4") & 160927 (5")
called the CLASSIC HUNTER 2002-2006... non PC... non JM..
a 4 OR 5 inch Full lug barrel with partridge site model... .400 Target Hammer & .312 Smooth Target Trigger... Hogue factory rubber...
mine is the 5 inch version... basically a rubber grip version of the original Model of 1989...shoots like a dream...

PC is well worth the extra money.. Cut rifled barrel, PC tuned action and

smoother shiny surface... l hate the bead blasted surfaces... l can't

ever seem to get the matte surfaces clean

You know where I'll be tomorrow!

The 625JM is a nice "blaster"! I use the same 230gr plated I run in my 1911s.

I had a new 625 Jm but it had some serious accuracy problems so I sent it back 3 times and they could never fix it right even with new barrels. The forcing cone on all three barrels they sent back were terrible. Would like to get another one some day but now I'm gun shy. HA! think the PC 625 also has a shorter cylinder for less mass for the trigger to spin for a lighter pull.
