Shot +p in my 642 and it kicked like a pissed-off mule. Not sure I'll use +p for my self defense rounds. I will settle fir less and get regular self defense rounds next timr.

Try lighter loads (148 gr wadcutters, 158 gr standard pressure) and work your way up to the heavier loads. Many practice with these and wind up a session with the defense ammo.

In the unlikely event you'll have to use your gun for SD you will not even notice recoil (I've been there during my LEO days). Practice w/standard pressure and use the +P enough to ensure familiarity.

Yup that's what I do. Should u ever need the +p self defense rounds, u wont notice that pissed off mule recoil!

The late Jim Cirillo, the former NYPD cop who participated in numerous gunfights in the SOU (Stake-Out Unit) always carried an aluminum frame Colt Agent snub .38 revolver in his trouser pocket. He wrote that the best load for a .38 snub was the standard target wadcutter, even at its lower velocity.

In later years, he tested many HG loads and concluded that the WC bullet shape with its sharp shoulder was the most efficient for stopping BGs. It would cut a full caliber hole in the target.
