S&W 945PC IDPA??

I just purchased a 945pc 4 inch, 170153, because I wanted one,, not for competition and I love it.

My SIL's best friend shoots IPSC in Australia and we have been talking. I think at my age IPSC or USPSA are out of my reach,,these bones are not fast,, BUT IDPA maybe..

SO, I went to the IDPA site and I have been reading their rules & regs.

Looks like 945 fits the bill,, almost..

Handguns permitted for use in this division must:

• A. Be semi-automatic.
• B. Be double action, double action only, or safe action (when the trigger is pulled, the hammer/striker is cocked and then released).
• C. Be 9mm (9x19) or larger caliber.
• D. Have a maximum unloaded weight of 39oz., including an empty magazine. (Will be effective January 25, 2006)
• E. Have a minimum annual production of 2000 units; (discontinued models must have had a total production of 20,000 units).
• F. Fit in the IDPA gun test box measuring 8 ¾" x 6" x 1 5/8" with an empty magazine inserted.
• G. Be loaded to the division capacity of ten (10) rounds in the magazine plus one (1) round in the chamber. Should division capacity not be achievable because of lower magazine capacity, load to maximum mechanical capacity of magazine plus one (1) round in the chamber. Competitors must use the same capacity magazines through out the competition (Example: if you start with a 9 round magazine, you must use that capacity magazine throughout the match).
• H. Begin hammer down for selective DA/SA pistols.
  

Does anyone have a feel for the annual production or total production requirement. It would seem that many "production" weapons would get DQ'd because of the lack of build volume..

For instance,, How can the 625 JM make it. Does the IDPA Borg clump all 625's together??

Well, I wouldn't worry about trying to keep up with the kids in IPSC; so you shoot a lower class because you walk instead of run, so what? Tell any young hecklers to go take a break and you'll let them know when it is their turn--then get better hits than they do.

As to the IDPA gun question, you can just email your question to [email protected] and Robert Ray or one of the other staff should get you an answer.
Are minor variations of a model lumped together for production counts? Yes, the JM 625 is just a 625 with legal factory variations.

Thanks, I have been reading here about the weight limits and how S&W is ,,, a little capricious about the 1911 wt listing on the web site. And people worrying about being DQ'd for being 1/2 oz over wt..

I'll drop a note to the IDPA and ask about the 945..

Maybe they thing it's a 1911 model??

I didn't know S&W made a double action 945. My 5" 945-1 is a single action.

Looks like as long as it fits in the box and makes weight, it would be a CDP gun.

Yup definitely CDP
(that's where I shoot my 945-1 PC). You'd be at a distinct disadvantage if you had to shoot against the 9mm 10 round crowd.
