Can the trigger pull be adjusted on S&W Models 639 & 59?

I suppose that depends on what you mean by "adjusted".

There are no adjustment screws, like on target guns, but there are some "adjustments" that can be made with springs and there is also "tuning" or "smoothing" of some parts that can make a difference in the trigger "feel".

Tell us what is it that you are trying to accomplish and I'm sure there will be some suggestions.

I'll also add that you have two distinct systems going on here... are you hoping to improve the looooong and heavy double action pull or the short and fast single action break?

Keep in mind that both of these are service grade pistols that were never meant to have elite target-quality triggers on them.

Just echoing what others have said. They can be improved but not really “adjusted.”

You could slightly lighten the mainspring and otherwise do a good cleaning/polish of the internal parts depending on your comfortability detail stripping the gun.

Not to scare anyone off from the job but these guns are a little more challenging than modern designs to take apart and any polishing you do needs to be careful.

I’ve done the job a number of times and I can’t say it’s a super dramatic improvement, but I still do it to all of the models I own.

I would get plenty of spare parts, work on those, if they don't turn out right
you have the originals. I recall reading that top pistolsmiths polish the side of parts in trigger groups. I would not touch the springs unless I had spares on hand.
