I assume you are talking about a model 78G. Not all "o" rings are created equal and this can make a real difference in co2 guns. Some "o" rings will absorb co2 and swell, making it near impossible to replace end caps for a half hour [until the co2 dissipates]. So, in some airgun applications a common hardware store "o" ring will be a bad choice. You will be better off to get a rebuild kit from a place that specializes in airgun rebuilding/parts. AB Airguns comes to mind.

If your present rings are not too bad sometimes they can be resurrected with a drop of Crosman Pellgun Oil, or a drop of 20 wt. NON-detergent motor oil. Might be worth a try.

Alan,
yes it is a 78G .22 cal., I went to AB's website and it says that they are very busy till after 4/6, I emailed them with a few questions and told them it was OK to answer after that time.
Thanks for the info

I never recommend motor oil or any other petroleum-based product. It's the quickest way to destroy O-rings. I learned the hard way. Best bet for an O-ring lubricant is silicone grease, such as used commercially in orinting presses and other high end equipment. Petrolatum (Vaseline) is not recommend either. I think the face mask goop that's used in scuba diving is 100% silicone.
