I have a pair of S&W handcuffs that I found when stationed at NS Long Beach as a Marine Cadre for their security force. In the gear room I found a pair of handcuffs that were electro-penciled Marine Bks. So I put them on my duty belt. When I left they went with me, saw no reason to leave them with the sailors. Is there an interest in this sort of thing among the collectors out there?

I don’t believe S&W cuffs are collectable but others may know more. I was required to purchase cuffs in ‘68 where I began my career, got Pearless and still have them.

There is a gentleman on the forum that has a special room built that houses quite a collection of handcuffs.

Hopefully he will see this and chime in.

I have several pairs of S & W cuffs. My favorite cuffs are Hiatt's light weight cuffs. I think they are made in England. I had my initials inscribed on them.

AJ,
There are many handcuff collectors out there of all brands of handcuffs.
In the 1970's, Smith & Wesson manufactured handcuffs known as the Model 95. These cuffs were only marked with the S&W logo on the front (keyway side) of the right hand cuff. No other factory markings. They came in a 2-piece brown box with government printing on the lid (see attached photos).
Depending on what S&W model of handcuffs you have, condition, box, no box, keys etc., depends on the value attached.
If you can post clear photos of both sides, box if present, I may be able to help you with a more definite identification.
Dave

Dave is being humble! He has the largest S$W handcuff collection in the world! At our SWCA Annual in Kansas City, MO he has a jail set up with hundreds of Smith & Wesson handcuffs on display.

These are the cuffs that I returned to Marine custody many years ago. As you can see they are electro-penciled "MARINE BARRACKS" "GUARD #2". Nothing fancy. Not probably worth anything, but a keepsake to me. Was just curious is all. Thanks.

AJ,
You have the military issue model 95. These were never (at least I have never seen) listed in any product circulars. I have seen one box that had MODEL-95 printed on it with all the other markings like on the boxes I have.
Before some showed up in the military marked boxes boxes, most collectors considered them factory defects.
Nice keepsake.

Dave,

Thank you very much for the information.

AJ,
Here is an example I received from a long time S&W employee that I believe was the prototype used for the military issue M-95. It was found in an old factory desk, in this 1963 military marked box with the DCTSC brass inspection disc attached.
