As recommended by forum members I requested documentation from S&W for my Model 60-1 chief special target .38 special and their Historian Don Mundell verified that my revolver is in fact one of the 1000 units special order for Ashland shooters supply in 1985.

I appreciate the counsel to get this documentation because I believe it adds to the value of this special revolver that I got from a sheriffs department deputy chief many years ago. So glad that I found the rounded wooden pistol stock grips that came with it when he bought it. The Pachymeyer grips he put on it are so much easier to hold though.

You may want to ask Don to recheck the number made. The catalog production number is 660. Here is a photo of mine...

I’ve read that 660 were produced that went to Ashlands as well, And I wonder if the original order was for 1000 units but they ended up only making 660?
