Serial number indicates .32 Safety Hammerless 2rd Model. Lemon squeezer is an informal name but everyone knows what you mean.

Might be a "T" latch. About 78,500made between 1902-1909. Serial number range is 91418 to 170000.

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson doesn't get any closer. Smarter people than me may get you a better date and correct my assumptions.

Thank you. Yes I should have said t latching. Yes I know about lemon
squeezer is just a nick name.
Thanks for letting me know it is a second series and dates from 1902-1909. I coild not remember the actual name for these models.
Safety hamerless model thanks again.

"Safety hamerless model thanks again." Also, they are known as .32 New Departures. Neat little revolvers: sort of like Popcorn, one isn't enough.

Squeezer parts mint to painted black

I have a breadbox full of New Departures. Three versions and two look brand-new (not in the box, but in the vault). At local shows and club can't give them away. Is it practical to break them down and ship individual or all parts to members ? bb

bb, I wouldn't break them down if they are complete and functioning. These revolvers' Achilles Heel is the 'split spring' that operates the cylinder stop. Once that part is gone then you are left with parts that are very difficult to sell. I.e., everyone is looking for the split spring and has all the other parts.

That's about the most throughfull and worthwhile response one could ever see. Much thanks bb

Put them up for sale in the Classifieds section of this forum if you no longer want them.

Does anyone have a good picture of the spring? I see them in books but not up close and clear.
