I have one of the only 4006 limited models I've ever known of. It's Single action, has an articulated barrel bushing, deep magwell, and holds standard 4006 mags.

It's one of a few that were made. The same model was made in 9mm also. Does anyone else have one?

40S&W Limited

I like it, it looks good! Didn't know they made that version in 40 cal. I don't have one (would be nice though) but it looks kind of like my 845 Limited. (These were special Performance Center SA target models.)

Does it have the same stubby hammer & adjustable BoMar sights?

And it sounds like it has the same titanium Briley spherical bushing too?

Is that a Performance Center logo on the right side?

The 845s do not have the model# stamped on them. Does yours?

Yup, the logo is there but no model number. It's the most accurate pistol I have owned. I'm not sure which was first but I also wanted an 845.

I've had one, there were several variations made with both SA and TDA triggers along with comped and two-tone models. I don't think there were more than 200 or so made of any one model. Mine came in the aluminum case, used it a couple times in USPSA Limited 10, extremely accurate.

Model# ???

What is the model number of this variation?
The 845 looks like a 4506-1 but S&W gave it a 2nd Gen model# even though it was manufactured during the 3rd Gen production phase. I'm sure it was given a model# other than 4006?

Gnappi, you're .40 limited looks to have a extended slide stop lever, did it come like that or was that aftermarket?

I have two model 4006 look pretty much like yours but no decock lever on mine. This one is a former TPD service gun the other one is a former Nevada Pardon and parole weapon. Both are .40 cal

Most Performance Center guns are not marked with a model number although they are based on various production models. Early Shorty-Forty and Shorty 9 were labeled on the box as 4006 and 5906 without any marks on the guns themselves. The gun gnappi has was referred to as the "40 Limited" or "M40", but that also covered the other variations. I've seen the SA Limited, TDA limited two-tone(blued slide), SA Comped and TDA Comped versions. The extended slide stop lever is most likely a Ed Brown, they were made for 5900/4000 and 1000/4500 framed guns for a short time, hard to find anymore.

Thanks handgunner356 I forgot that ed brown use to do that in the third gen's busier days.

3rd Gen Gems

Beautiful guns!
FYI I just viewed a similar gun on GB a Super Nine SA with 3 barrels out of my price range right now, but very interesting gun.

I'm glad you asked about the 'Limited' because it gave me a chance to get all my 4006 variants out for a photo shoot. Here goes...

That's a fine group of Forty's you have there!!!

I have a 4006 that has the original box marked "Heavy Barrel," do any of you folks know what that means? I have posted this question on the forum, and emailed S&W, who didn't even respond to my email. What's a heavy barrel 4006???! Thanks.

Awesome set

That's an awesome set of 40s! (I love pictures of guns I haven't seen before...thanks!) :)

That's crazy all the different versions S&W used to make. Sure wish they'd make some more interesting/quality guns nowadays. Nothing too exciting from PC lately. :(

I haven't heard of a 4006 with that designation, but the 952 comes in a 'heavy barrel' model, and I would assume its the same. If you look at the lower front edge of the slide on any of the pictures in this thread, there is a 'relieved', or scalloped-out area, on both sides from the muzzle extending back to the forward point of the frame. On the Heavy Barrel version, there is no relieved area, and thus the front end is heavier, reducing muzzle flip when firing.

Can you post a picture of yours?

Wip624, My compliments Sir! You've got some fine pistols there!

That is a 4046, not a 4006. The extended rear slide hiding part of the hammer and the trigger location are the indicators. The 4046 is DAO, not SAO or TDA like the "Limited".

No it didn't come that way... S&W for some reason can't see that they need to make them as I've never seen a Smith come with one.

I have two extended slide stops. One was made by me and a friend the one on the limited I got from a long defunct company named Kings.

After all these years Smith is still in the dark ages when it comes to more modern controls like extended mag releases, slide stops and ambidextrous safeties. When I got my limited I was VERY surprised to see the mag release, mag well, but disappointed that the safety and slide stop were old school.

SMITH AND WESSON, WAKE UP!!! :-)
