I picked up my new S&W M&P Sport II today from my local gun store where it was shipped to. My first look at it and I'm impressed with the look and feel of it. Tomorrow I will clean and lube it and mount the Nikon P223 3x9x40mm scope I bought for it and then out to the rifle range for a shakedown and zeroing it in.

Congrats on your purchase, you will love it. I put a vortex sparc II on mine, but was thinking of getting that scope. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Let us know how you like it, once you've had it to the range. I just got a Sport recently, but have only stripped/cleaned/lubed it, and installed a Magpul kit -- haven't fired it yet. I'm expecting to hit the range this weekend...

Don't bother cleaning and lubing it. Make sure nothing is obstructing the barrel and go shoot it.

Bad advice. Always inspect, clean and lube a new firearm before taking it to the range. The oils on new firearms are corrosion preventatives for packing and storage, not necessarily proper lubrication.

I'm not trying to beat you up here but that is some bad advice. Clean it well making sure there are no fine bits of metal or other debris before firing any firearm the first time.

^^^what these guys said^^^

Always clean your firearms after you first get them. You can't believe the **** you will clean out of a brand new firearm!

Amazing how that will solve a lot of potential problems right off the bat. :)

I was a Combat Infantry Soldier in Vietnam with the 4th division and carried a M-16 so I know all about keeping them clean and I always clean an lube a gun (new or used) before its first visit to the range.

Anyway got the scope mounted and ready to go.
Crappy picture but here it is

The Nikon 3x9x40 P 223 works like a dream on my Sport. I keep it at 9x because all I ever shoot is 100 yds. Im sure there are better out there but the cost reflects that.

Brand new firearms can always use a thorough inspection. I've cleaned out bits of metal from new guns even from higher end brands.

Looks good to go. :)
I was in when they transitioned from the M-14 to the M16, then to the M-16A2. Combat Engineer.

You'll like that Nikon, great scope! How you people buy a new gun and have them for a few days without shooting them.... That's blasphemy!

I have a couple of those Nikon scopes. I haven't seen anything in that price range that was as good.

Got mine out on the range Sunday and put 200 rounds threw her..
Irons were dead on from the factory..
Excellent AR...
Have a Magpul furniture kit coming in soon..
Great time to buy with their closeout prices...
Got the Kit which includes Butt Stock, grip, hand guard, and vertical grip all for $59.00....

doesn't shoot them himself.

My dad was like that. He bought a gun for every spot he might be sitting. He bought only S&W revolvers. He mostly bought .357's. And he trusted that they would work and he either didn't shoot them at all or shot them maybe 2-3 times just to be sure they worked and that was it. I had to warn my wife several times to watch where she sat down because likely as not there was a gun under the couch cushion. They were everywhere. He had a bunch of other guns too. Very rarely shot them in his later days. When he was younger he was a shotgun shooting crazy man. Even bought a trap machine when they were incredibly expensive and no one else owned one. People used to come to our farm from all over 3 states because there just weren't any trap ranges in those days. But we had one in our back yard. We would have 30 people standing in line to shoot some days. We couldn't really even afford that machine but he kept it a while (a couple of years I guess) then sold it for about as much as he paid for it. He figured he was just renting it a while and he was right.
